Two all-stars team up to evolve the game
As the Official Cloud and Cloud AI Partner of the NBA, WNBA, and other NBA affiliate leagues, AWS will provide new advanced analytics, power fan experiences, and enhance broadcasting capabilities. The NBA and AWS share a competitive spirit and a desire to improve how basketball is played, watched, and appreciated worldwide.

New Advanced Stats debuting for the 2025-26 season
AWS AI will help the NBA track and share statistics measuring previously intangible aspects of player performance. The initial Advanced Stats use AWS machine learning to track Shot Difficulty (xFG%), Defensive Box Score, and Gravity—all of which expand the league’s ability to quantify any individual player’s impact on the court. This season, fans will get an even deeper appreciation for precisely how well the top players perform, and how it reshapes the entire flow of a game.
Inside the Game: the NBA’s basketball intelligence platform
By integrating AWS AI into their technology infrastructure, the NBA can now turn billions of data points into interactive fan experiences and real-time insights shared during live broadcasts. This new engine of basketball intelligence will also feed into the NBA App, NBA.com, and NBA social channels, making it easier for every fan to dive deeper into the game they love.

How the NBA is rising to new heights with AWS
NBA Inside the Game powered by AWS
AWS will introduce AI into more of the data network that the NBA uses to track, broadcast, and analyze action on the court. The NBA’s Executive Vice President and Head of Media Operations and Technology, Ken DeGennaro called it “an opportunity to elevate the live game experience through innovation and offer fans a deeper understanding of the game of basketball for years to come.”

AI-powered Play Finder
NBA Inside the Game powered by AWS will also feature a first-of-its-kind technology called “Play Finder,” which uses AI to analyze and understand player movements across thousands of games. Play Finder will help fans and broadcasters learn common offensive strategies and explore deeper insights by combining play results with advanced analytics. Future iterations of Play Finder will allow fans to explore basketball strategy with unprecedented depth on the NBA App.

Advanced stats
The first three AI-powered stats available will be Defensive Box Score, Shot Difficulty, and Gravity. Defensive Box Score quantifies individual defensive contributions that traditional stats miss. Shot Difficulty evaluates every shot attempt through factors like shooter positioning, defensive pressure, and expected conversion rates. Gravity measures the level of attention certain players receive, and the advantages their presence creates for teammates.

Global fan engagement
The NBA's global digital platforms, including the NBA App, NBA.com, and NBA League Pass, will run on AWS. These platforms are crucial to super fans bouncing between multiple games a night, as well as fans around the world hoping to tune in at all hours to track their favorite team. The industry-leading AWS cloud infrastructure will keep fans connected and allow the NBA to innovate more ways to bring the game to fans everywhere.
