What is a chiplet? A modular building block of a larger integrated circuit or chip.
Chiplets are tiny integrated circuits with specific functionality. Chiplets can be put together (like Lego blocks) to create a more complex processing module or chip. With their smaller size, chiplets reduce the negative impact of defects because instead of manufacturing a monolithic silicon chip, a chip built of multiple chiplets allows a defective chiplet to be replaced to preserve the function of the larger chip. Additionally, chiplets contain reusable IP and can be manufactured for use across many different devices. This mix and match approach offers a fast, cost-effective way to respond to the exponential growth in different types of workloads and computing demands.
