The practice facility opened in time for the start of training camp, which begins Thursday at 9:45 a.m. local time. The 146,000-square-foot campus will also serve as the Mammoth's official headquarters.
The Smith Entertainment Group, which owns the Mammoth, purchased the Sandy mall in August 2024 with plans to build the practice facility there, per Palak Jayswal of the Salt Lake Tribune.
The franchise used space previously occupied by a Macy's store to build the facility, according to Alex Silverman of the Sports Business Journal.
The portion dedicated to the team will feature two ice rinks, in addition to an 8,000-square-foot gym, a medical wing featuring aquatic therapy tools and a sauna, as well as a meal room, a players' lounge and a barber shop.
A portion of the facility featuring multiple rinks, skate rentals and a team store will be open to the community in "early 2026," according to the team.
The rinks will be open to "youth and amateur hockey leagues, ice skating, and other recreational programs," according to the Mammoth.
Mammoth general manager Bill Armstrong told Bogart he believed the building "could be the best facility in the National Hockey League."
"The impact that this will have on our franchise is massive. It will give us a chance to become an elite NHL franchise," Armstrong said, per Bogart. "I also think it has a huge impact on the community. These two new rinks built in Utah, it's huge for this community to grow hockey here in Utah."
The SEG acquired the rights to an NHL franchise in Utah in June 2024, shortly after the league approved the Arizona Coyotes' relocation to Salt Lake City.
The ownership group later announced it was investing "several million dollars" in renovating the Utah Olympic Oval facility in Kearns for use as a practice facility during the team's inaugural 2024-25 season.
The SEG declined to say how much was spent on the project to build the new practice facility in Sandy for 2025-26, according to Silverman.
SEG president of revenue and commercial strategy Chris Barney told Silverman the Mammoth have a naming rights deal in place for the Sandy facility, although it has yet to be announced.
