Reflecting on a fantastic first BILTIR Annual Conference... We were proud to represent Chariot Re for the first time at Bermuda’s International Life & Annuity Conference last week. It was an energizing experience to connect with peers from across the life reinsurance industry and to be part of conversations that are shaping the future of our sector. The panel discussions were insightful and thought-provoking, sparking meaningful conversations and offering fresh perspectives on the challenges and opportunities ahead. Topics ranged from evolving regulatory landscapes to innovation, risk, and powering financial security. We’re already thinking about how to incorporate some of these insights into our approach as we continue to build a modern, forward-looking reinsurance business.   Thank you to the BILTIR team and all the attendees who made it such a welcoming and engaging event. Our Executive Leadership Team spotlight series continues… 🎉 Meet Reena Pally – our Chief Investment Officer! Reena brings over 20 years of experience in the financial services industry, having held a range of leadership positions. She joins Chariot Re from MetLife Investment Management (MIM), where she managed investments across multiple asset classes and navigated a variety of economic cycles. Most recently, she served as Managing Director and Portfolio Manager in the MIM Real Estate group. Reena is focused on building all-weather strategies that deliver appropriate risk-adjusted returns. A first-generation American, Reena grew up with three sisters in a small town in western Pennsylvania. From an early age, she learned to adapt quickly, prepare for the unexpected and build strong ties – lessons that shaped her journey throughout her career and continue to guide her leadership today. 🎓 The Madeira School. New York University B.S. University of Southern California MBA. 💼 What she brings: Investment acumen, strong collaboration, seeing around corners.  ⚖️What keeps her balanced: Pilates (literally!). Walks with her dog. Listening to vinyl records. ❤️ What she loves: Traveling with family. Dinner with friends. Our Executive Leadership Team spotlight series continues… 🎉 Meet Michael Sakoulas – our Chief Actuary! With over 30 years in financial services, Michael has led actuarial, finance, hedging, and reinsurance functions across some of the biggest names in the industry – MetLife, AIG, Old Mutual Bermuda, and AXA Re Life. At MetLife, he served as CFO of Retirement & Income Solutions before driving strategic reinsurance initiatives, including the early development of Chariot Re, back when we were just an idea on a whiteboard. Today, he’s leading the charge on all things actuarial, making sure our numbers are as solid as his classic rock trivia game. 🎓 Columbia Math Master’s + Queens College Undergrad. FSA. MAAA. 💼 What he brings: Technical expertise, strategic vision, and compassion. ❤️ What he loves: Family. Running. Cycling. The NY Giants and Man U. 🧿 Home base: A small island in Greece that we affectionately refer to as 'his' island. 🎸 Secret talent: Was in a band. Still shreds. Rock star trapped in an actuary’s resume. 🎶 What not to do: Challenge him to 70s rock trivia. You will lose. Badly. Michael describes himself as a “boring actuary” – which is exactly what a guy who was in a band, has a killer guitar collection, and encyclopedic music knowledge would say. Whether he’s helping refine our capital model or naming every track on a Zeppelin album, Michael brings a unique blend of precision and personality to everything he does. Delcho was part of the vision for Chariot Re before we even had a name – helping to shape our strategy from day one. With deep operational and financial expertise, he brings a rare mix of precision, pragmatism, and passion to everything he does. Before joining Chariot Re, Delcho held leadership roles across MetLife, including strategic development, international capital management, and finance transformation. His early roles at AIG and EY laid the foundation for the global perspective he brings to the table today. 🎓 Executive MBA from Oxford Saïd Business School. CPA. Drexel University alum. 💼 What he brings: Strategic thinking, financial acumen, and operational excellence. ☕ What keeps him going: Espresso. Apricot cookies. Repeat. ❤️ What he loves: Traveling. Des has extensive experience in the UK and latterly in Asia, particularly Japan, where over the past 17 years he has led actuarial, reinsurance/capital and risk functions at MetLife. He believes that sound financial management is at the core of delivering on promises to both customers and counterparties. He’s keen to provide transparency to stakeholders and tailor technical communication to the right level for the audience. 🎓 BSc in Mathematics. Qualified Actuary (FIA & FSA). 💼 What he brings: Global insight, technical depth, and strategic foresight. ⛳ What keeps him balanced: Golf on Bermuda’s beautiful courses, espresso, wine. ❤️ What he loves: Learning about Bermuda culture and history. 💡 Guiding principle: “Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler.” – Einstein Though he misses Asian food, Des is quickly embracing Bermudian culture.
