  • In agriculture, a picture is worth a thousand words. 📸 But as Syngenta Fellow in Computer Vision and Artificial Intelligence Rob Lind knows, extracting data from an image can be a lengthy process that's prone to human error. Rob designs systems that replace estimates with exact measurements, and he created a new generation of computer vision tools with his team — a technology that enables computers to observe and interpret their surroundings, identifying everything from crops and weeds to fruits and pests. With this new generation of tools, growers can use a single image to run more precise analyses, pinpoint crop health metrics, and spot emerging threats faster than ever before. From tallying corn kernels for accurate yield outcomes to our Robodog delivering leaf-level insights, these advancements are transforming the future of field management. 🌾 #AgTech #Robodog #Innovation #ComputerVision

For over a decade at our North Carolina headquarters, we've worked to bridge the gap between science and harsh farming conditions. 🌾 Active ingredients alone aren’t enough to protect farms from destructive pests like corn rootworm larvae, which gnaw at roots underground. Crop protection solutions must be carefully engineered into a finished formulation that remains stable, pourable, and highly effective. That challenge led to the unique formulation of Opello. As Kevin W. Langdon, Technical Product Lead, puts it, “Opello can be tank mixed with a wide breadth of starter fertilizers to deliver top-end efficacy against corn rootworm. This was an unmet need for growers who wanted to fertilize and protect their crops simultaneously, and we were able to deliver on that.” But creating formulations is only half the battle at our Greensboro facility. Between the factory and the field, ingredients can easily separate, crystallize, or thicken into an unpourable sludge, which is why Andrew Pearson’s R&D team stress-tests solutions to ensure growers get the exact product and quality for excellent yields! 🙌 Here’s how our Greensboro team work together to keep our food supply from a billion-dollar threat 👉 https://lnkd.in/ei2EkRcp #Agriculture #CropProtection #Innovation

  • How do you plan for agriculture’s next big threat? Roughly every two years, a new plant pathogen puts vegetable crops and harvests at risk around the world. But at an isolated, fully controlled, biosafe facility in the heart of Andalucía in Southern Spain, science is helping us develop solutions faster to help growers protect their crops. Teams of scientists at our new R&D Technology Center in El Ejido collaborate daily to identify emerging pathogens earlier, accelerating the development of more resilient vegetable varieties to help strengthen global food security. The facility’s field-to-lab approach means diagnostics begin in growers' fields as soon as new threats emerge, covering viruses, bacteria, fungi, nematodes, and parasitic plants. Thanks to those insights, our experts can begin developing solutions faster to protect the livelihoods of growers. Every emerging plant pathogen is a new race against time. But now science has the tools to compete. #Agriculture #PlantScience #AgTech #Innovation Syngenta Vegetable Seeds

  • We are deeply saddened by the passing of Dr. Mary-Dell Chilton — a true trailblazer whose impact on science, agriculture, and our company will be felt for generations. Dr. Chilton was one of the founders of modern plant biotechnology, leading the research team that produced the world’s first transgenic plants. Her groundbreaking work fundamentally changed what is possible in plant science and laid the foundation for innovations that continue to support farmers around the globe. Her extraordinary contributions were recognized around the world, including the World Food Prize, the National Medal of Technology and Innovation, and induction into the National Inventors Hall of Fame — a reflection of both the scale and enduring importance of her work. At Syngenta and its legacy organizations, Dr. Chilton helped build one of the world’s foremost agricultural biotechnology programs, pioneering advancements that improved crop resilience and productivity. Her leadership played a defining role in bringing the first biotech trait in corn (Bt) to market — a milestone moment for our company and for modern agriculture. Beyond her scientific achievements, she was a passionate mentor who inspired generations of scientists through her curiosity, determination, and commitment to discovery. Her legacy lives on through the people she guided and the innovations that continue to shape our work. We extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy will continue to inspire for generations to come.

  • El Niño is strengthening and threatens food security, livelihoods and agricultural production across the world’s most vulnerable regions through this year and next. 🍃 The prolonged period of above-average temperatures in the equatorial Pacific is expected to peak by the end of the year, says the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the World Food Programme are appealing for help to protect nearly nine million people from the potential impact of a strong El Niño weather pattern across 22 high-risk priority countries. As London Climate Action Week 2026 takes place under a European heatwave this week, the conversation is focused on the urgency of implementing solutions. In agriculture, this means we need to deliver higher yields with lower impact. “Our customers are facing climate change every day...we have to keep investing in enabling growers to produce food, fuel and fiber,” said Petra Laux, our Chief Sustainability Officer, during a WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development panel this week in London. From hybrid wheat, rice and barley to ‘plant health’ fungicides that minimize water vapor loss and improve water and nutrient-use efficiency, explore the innovations in the comments. 👇 #LCAW2026 #ElNino #FoodSecurity
