Questions
Asked & answered.
How do I track my Claude usage limits on a Mac?
Install Claude Tracker — it shows your 5-hour session window, weekly limits and per-model usage (Opus, Sonnet, Fable) live in the menu bar, color-coded before you hit a rate limit.
Does it work with Claude Code?
Yes. It renders live usage inside Claude Code's statusline, switches the active Claude Code account in one click, and shows what Claude Code is doing in real time via the Dynamic Island HUD.
Is it free?
Completely free and open source under the MIT license. No account, no subscription. The app is signed and notarized by Apple.
Is my Claude account data safe?
Credentials live in the macOS Keychain and everything stays on your Mac — no cloud sync, no servers. The code is open source and auditable on GitHub.
Which Macs are supported?
macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later, Apple silicon and Intel. Native Swift — light on battery and memory.
How do I check how much Claude usage I have left?
Glance at your menu bar. Claude Tracker shows your remaining session and weekly usage as live percentages, and the popover breaks down every limit — including per-model usage and extra usage — with exact reset times.
Does it work with Claude Pro and Max plans?
Yes. It reads the same usage data Claude reports for your plan, whatever it is — session windows, weekly caps, per-model limits and extra usage all reflect your actual subscription.
Is Claude Tracker the same as Claude Usage Tracker?
Yes — Claude Tracker is the new name of Claude Usage Tracker, the original open-source Claude usage tracker for macOS. Same app, same GitHub repository, same updates.
How do I install it?
Run brew install --cask hamed-elfayome/claude-usage/claude-usage-tracker or download the zip above. Updates arrive automatically via Sparkle or brew upgrade.
