No one argues the viability of the Internet of Things, and that the ability to connect devices will have an impact on the Retail industry. However, that impact will be not be transformative unless customers, business systems and devices are connected and the companies that produce the underlying devices and solutions also connect.

Retailers face challenges similar to those of any business – portfolio management, development, manufacturing, supply-chain, marketing, data management, etc. They also face shortened product development cycles as customers expect frequent releases of new styles. Additionally, what customers want is ever evolving – what was in demand yesterday is passé today.

The way people shop is evolving. Consumers are more educated, with information at their fingertips. They can make purchases anywhere, anytime with their mobile devices. They expect retailers to keep up with them - to buy what they want, when they want it, and to enjoy a unique, personalized experience along the way. Silo'ed data and systems with a lack of 1:1 customer engagement is preventing retailers from keeping up with customer expectations.

This presentation will explore how the IoT can help drive both operational efficiencies and enable an enhanced shopping experience. We’ll demonstrate how ThingWorx can drive additional value from back end systems and data that retailers already have, as well as from new sources enabled by the IoT. We’ll show how we can leverage a highly connected infrastructure to enable a heightened shopping experience. We’ll present examples of how real-time data collected in the store can be translated into actionable information that can drive up margins and revenue, while building customer loyalty.
