EXCLUSIVE: Lithuanian filmmaker Andrius Blaževičius has signed with WME for representation in all areas.
Blaževičius is coming off the Sundance premiere of his third feature, How to Divorce During the War, which won the World Dramatic Competition’s Directing Award. Set in Vilnius in 2022, the drama follows Marija, who has a revelation that she wants to divorce her husband, Vytas, right before Russia invades Ukraine. Forced to confront their crumbling relationship, they navigate the process of divorce as it collides with the ongoing war.
Also set in Vilnius, Blaževičius’ previous feature, Runner, is a thriller following a woman on a fast-paced odyssey through the city in search of a boyfriend who has disappeared following a psychotic episode. Prior to that, Blaževičius made his feature directorial debut with The Saint, a drama following a factory worker who loses his job during the financial crisis in 2008 and winds up meeting a YouTuber who claims to have met Jesus. That film premiered at the Warsaw Film Festival and Busan Film Festival in 2016, winning six national awards.
Born in Vilnius, Blaževičius studied culture history and anthropology at Vilnius University before transitioning to study film directing at Lithuanian Music and Theatre Academy, where he graduated with a Masters of Arts. His short film Ten Reasons won two awards from the Lithuanian Film Academy in 2011.
