After three years, Dungeons & Dragons has another campaign in store for fans of the 2023 movie… if it can just get the greenlight.
Jonathan Goldstein, who co-wrote and co-directed Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves with John Francis Daley, revealed at Comic-Con that they wrote a sequel to their 2023 adaptation of the tabletop role-playing game.
“We actually wrote a sequel to Dungeons & Dragons. We were hired to write it,” Goldstein told ScreenRant. “I don’t know that it will see the light of day for a number of financial reasons. They’re expensive movies to make, but it’d be great fun to do it. We love that cast, and we think we wrote something that fans would like.
Despite a solid 91% critic rating and 92% from fans on Rotten Tomatoes, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves grossed $205M worldwide on a $150M budget.
Watch on Deadline
While a live-action Dungeons & Dragons series was ordered for Paramount+ in 2023, the streamer opted not to move forward with the Rawson Marshall Thurber-created show the following year. Hasbro has since shopped the project around, finding a new home at Netflix with a new iteration, entitled The Forgotten Realms, from Shawn Levy and writer-showrunner Drew Crevello.
Good! Ladt movie was aweful!
Might be the movie i despice most out of every movie ive seen.
Its pure garbage.
You’re a nut! That movie was crazy good and under rated. Are you thinking about the 1990s version with Jeremy Irons, ’cause that was the worst movie just about ever made. Honor Among Thieves is a solid 8/10 for me.
I’m sure Netflix would be happy to have it as a made for streaming movie.
Make it for streaming, it would be big
Criminally underrated- wonderful film that should have been a huge franchise. My family loved it.
It should bee thriwn in the fires of mt doom. Its an insult to filmmaking and story writing. Is so freaking bad it makes the bible look line a coherent story
I would seriously love to have a conversation with you about the film because your take doesn’t even sound like the movie I saw. It did great respect to the source and to role-players. The story was solid if somewhat predictable, the actors were rockstars, the jokes landed, the straight man worked great. Sophia Lillis has a few acting/dialogue/script moments that were questionable but she seemed to get more into character later in the film. Turning into an Owlbear also irked me for a while but I got over it. The throwback to the D&D cartoon was a hoot. I don’t know, I think you’re just a hater.
Just say you expected some kinda Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones shit and move on. The film felt just like sitting around the table with friends on a Saturday night, and it’s that reason so many of us loved it. It truly felt like a real game of D&D.
Entertainment and enjoyment are subjective. Don’t yuck someone’s yums because YOU don’t like the movie. A lot of people enjoyed it, it made over its budget, still gets money from streaming, and it has a pretty positive rating from critics and viewers on Rotten Tomatoes.
That $150 million figure is low
