Having been introduced as an all-new model for 2024, the Fiat 500e goes upscale with the available Giorgio Armani Collector’s Edition for 2025. With the discontinuation of the gasoline-powered 500X crossover, the all-electric 500e compact four-seat hatchback is the Italian automaker’s only Canadian offering.
Rivals in this pint-sized plug-in segment include the Mini Countryman All4 and Nissan Leaf.
The 500e adds the Girogio Armani edition for 2025, which includes green or grey-beige paint, unique wheels and interior materials, and premium stereo. Other 500e changes are new exterior colours of Tennis Ball, Ocean Green, and Marine Layer Mist.
The 500e uses a 42-kWh battery feeding an electric motor that makes 117 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque, and driving the front wheels. Its selectable driving modes include “Sherpa,” which limits the car to 76 horsepower and maximum speed of 80 km/h, and also increases regenerative braking to maximize how far you can travel on your remaining battery charge – although it will deliver full power if you need to get out of trouble and you mash the throttle.
In a review of the 2024 Fiat 500e, David Booth said, “Whatever the actual acceleration figure, the little 500e never felt under-powered, had plenty of punch to stay ahead of traffic, and even had enough juice to play silly buggers on a few (highway) on-ramps when the you-know-who weren’t looking. Take the 500e off your shopping list because its range is deficient, not because it’s pokey… I totally enjoyed my time in the Fiat 500e. Were I part of a two-car family — empty-nester, newly-married, or some other form of DINK — I’d have one in a heartbeat.”
Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) rates the 2025 500e at a range of 227 kilometres. It’s also rated at 2.0 Le/100 km city, 2.4 highway, and 2.1 combined – that being litres equivalent, the comparison of electric energy to gasoline energy. It’s an estimated $684 per year to charge it; and it takes about 4.5 hours to do so on a Level 2 charger, which includes home chargers. On a DC fast charger, the 500e can soak up 50 kilometres of range in five minutes, and go to 80% battery capacity in 35 minutes.
The Fiat 500e hasn’t been crash-tested by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Standard driver-assist features include emergency front braking and lane-keep assist, while adaptive cruise control with hands-on driving assist and blind-spot monitoring is available on upper trims.
Consumer Reports hasn’t given the Fiat 500e a predicted reliability score, due to lack of available consumer data on it; but it says it expects it to be “less reliable than other new cars,” based on Fiat’s previous brand history.
Features on the entry Red trim include cloth seats, automatic climate control, 10.25-inch centre screen with wireless connectivity and navigation, seven-inch digital instrument cluster, pushbutton start, wireless charger, and rain-sensing wipers. The La Prima adds “eco-leather” upholstery and automatic high-beam headlamps; the Giorgio Armani further adds a seven-speaker JBL audio system, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control.
In a review of the 2024 Fiat 500e, David Booth said, “Front-seat passengers will find the 500e a treat for such a small car. The front accommodations are roomy, the seats pliant and six-way adjustable. All manual, mind you. The infotainment isn’t much and the screen small, but it hosts CarPlay and is quick and reliable at connecting with your phone.”
The 2025 Fiat 500e has an overall length of 3,631 mm (142.9 inches). Front-seat headroom is 997 mm (39.2 in), dropping to 898 mm (35.3 in) in the rear. For legroom, those in front get 1,061 mm (41.8 in); rear-seat passengers receive just 748 mm (29.4 in). Cargo volume is 213 litres (7.5 cubic feet). The 500e also tips the scale at just 1,342 kg (2,952 lbs), making it the lightest EV on the market.
In addition to being the lightest EV, the 500e is also the least-expensive in the Canadian market, with the entry Red trim starting at $39,995. The other two trims are packages on top of that, with the La Prima adding $3,000; while the Giorgio Armani is an additional $6,000.
