Software Defined Lighting Demonstrator

The Software Defined Lighting(SDL) system is an invention patented by Philips which makes use of the Software Defined Network(SDN) paradigm to control dynamically a lighting IP network formed by lights and sensors.
The aim of the project is to build a demonstrator of a SDL system only with software.

• Set up the architecture…The Software Defined Lighting(SDL) system is an invention patented by Philips which makes use of the Software Defined Network(SDN) paradigm to control dynamically a lighting IP network formed by lights and sensors.
The aim of the project is to build a demonstrator of a SDL system only with software.

• Extended mininet (open source network simulator) to make it possible to emulate IP lighting networks. Designed and implemented the new classes with Python.
• Designed and implemented the graphical user interface to control and monitor the SDL system. Used Python , PyQt and QtDesigner.

• Designed and developed the software for the radar control processor. This is the module that controls every subsystem of the radar, so it must communicate with other software modules through different protocols such as TCP/IP or OpenMPI. The response ot this module is time critical, as it´s the main machine state of the radar system.
• Designed with OOD and UML and developed with C++ on real time linux operating system.
• Managed software configuration using SVN.

• Designed and developed new functionalities for the ground system (which was already implemented) using C++ on linux operating system.
• These new functionalities consisted of an SNMP layer to control and monitor the ADS-B ground system, new interfaces with other subsystems and adapt the existing software to support a more configurable system.
• Made also modifications in an internal tool to visualize the aircrafts position (using visual studio C++) to support these new interfaces.

• Wrote the Software Design Document for the new version of the radar (SMR v2). The version v1 was already implemented, but it was obsolete and it was difficult to maintain, mainly because of a wrong previous design.
• Design with OOD aproach to achieve the goal.
• Transfered all the code written in C to C++.

Established principles are combined with major advances in planar array, solid state amplifiers and signal processing technology to achieve the ultimate in radar detection.

• The radar was being developed since 5 years ago. It was necessary help to finish the project according to the deadlines, so that I joined one of the software teams that is in charge of developing the Signal and Control Process software module.
• Added new interfaces to the software module to interact with other modules, using IPC, TCP/IP and MODBUS communication.
• Designed and developed the Modbus Communication Library to control Modbus devices.

Was my Bachelor Thesis at University of Alcala. Designed and developed the remote control of the Lanza Radar´s spinning system controlling frequency variators through Modbus commands over the TCP/IP layer communication.
The thesis was done in collaboration with Indra Systems.
