Undergraduate Admissions
Admission to the undergraduate program of the Foster School of Business is capacity-constrained. There are two paths to admission:
Freshman Direct Admission
For high school applicants:
- High School Students (incoming freshmen)
- Running Start Students
Standard Admission
For all applicants including:
- Current, Returning, or Former UW Students
- Transfer Students, International Students
- UW Bothell & UW Tacoma Students
High School Applicants who meet all eligibility requirements can apply for both Freshman Direct and Standard Admission
Graduate School Requirements
- The Graduate School establishes minimum admission standards, including academic credentials like a recognized baccalaureate degree. Programs may specify more stringent requirements.
- All applicants, including international students, face the same basic application procedures, with additional steps required only after admission.
- International applicants using F‑1 or J‑1 visas must later demonstrate financial support and follow visa documentation instructions.
Start Your Graduate School Application
All Foster graduate program applicants (Specialty Master’s, MBA, PhD) must apply through the UW Graduate School application system.
1. Click “Start Application“
2. Create or Log Into Your Profile
Create a profile or log in to start or manage your application.
3. Begin a New Application
Choose your graduate program and entry term; not all programs open simultaneously, so verify the “application open date” in the application portal.
4. Review Requirements & Deadlines
Within the application portal, navigate to “Review Requirements and Deadlines” on the sidebar to find program-specific application components.
Assemble and Upload Required Materials
Prepare to upload the following through the application portal:
- Academic transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended
- Resume or CV
- Statement of Purpose or Personal Statement
- Recommender Contact Information
- Standardized test scores (GRE/GMAT), if required by your specific program
- Optional/Required for international applicants: English proficiency test scores, if applicable (e.g., TOEFL, Academic IELTS)
Important Tips
- After uploading materials, keep copies for your records, as UW keeps submission materials and does not return or duplicate them.
- If you can’t upload due to size or format limitations, try another browser or scan settings; contact the department if issues persist.
- You may request fee waivers within the application if eligible; this must be done before paying the nonrefundable fee.
Submit and Monitor your application
- Submit your completed application, including payment or approved fee waiver.
- If applying to multiple programs, submit and pay separately for each.
- Track your application: confirm receipt of recommendation letters, test scores, and get updates on decision status.
After Submission and Decision
Once decisions are made, you’ll receive admission offers via email. For admitted students:
- Accept your offer using your UW NetID, PAC, and student ID through the application portal.
- Submit Final Official Transcripts for degree verification.
International Students
- After admission, you’ll be invited to MyISSS to request your I‑20 (for F‑1) or DS‑2019 (for J‑1).
- Prepare financial documentation early and expect 2–4 weeks for processing.
- Plan your travel and arrival carefully around program start dates and mandatory check-in timelines.
