Damien Lucas a partagé ceciEurope cannot afford to repeat its cloud dependency in Data & AI. 👇 For years, Europe’s dependence on non-European cloud and software providers was treated as a technical or procurement issue. It was always a strategic one. The result: today, 80% of Europe's cloud and software spending — that’s €265 billion a year — still flows to non-European providers. But the ground is shifting: in just a few months, Europe’s technological sovereignty has moved from principle to policy to procurement. The European Commission’s recent sovereign cloud tender and the Cloud and AI Development Act moving to the proposal phase are proof that we are on the right track. AI is accelerating that shift. After Anthropic and OpenAI restricted access to advanced models following the US government’s intervention, European organizations have seen how quickly critical capabilities can become subject to decisions taken outside Europe. This is why we are publishing the Scaleway Manifesto for Data & AI Sovereignty in Europe. It brings together principles that have guided Scaleway for years, and that apply well beyond this specific platform: European jurisdiction (not just location); interoperability through open standards that keep your workflows portable; and transparent pricing as a condition for trust. 👉 Read the manifesto here: https://lnkd.in/emG-MnG5 We believe this is the standard European organizations should now expect.

Damien Lucas a partagé ceciScaleway secures European “Trusted Cloud” services contract with Airbus! ✈️ It’s official: Airbus has selected Scaleway as its sovereign cloud provider to support its cloud capabilities and complement its current cloud portfolio. Powered by European infrastructure, open technologies, and seamless interoperability, this platform will support business-critical applications across aircraft design, engineering, manufacturing, and enterprise operations — workflows that demand the highest levels of governance, resilience, and legal protection. Built to evolve alongside Airbus’s engineering and enterprise environments, it will notably provide the AI-ready capabilities needed to enable future innovation. This recognition follows a thorough evaluation process: 50 vendors were consulted, 10 invited to submit proposals, and 4 finalists shortlisted before Scaleway was ultimately selected as Airbus’s sole cloud partner. Beyond how the selection was made, I am especially proud of why we were chosen. During the press conference, Airbus CIO Catherine Jestin praised our ability to deliver on the roadmap we presented at the very start of the tender process. This new milestone further validates our vision. We continue to empower European leaders with long-term strategic autonomy for their most sensitive applications and data. Damien Lucas a partagé ceciCloud, AI and High-Performance Computing are converging. At the same time, Europe faces another challenge: how do we continue scaling compute while using energy more intelligently? This is why I'm particularly excited that Scaleway and Qarnot are joining forces. Beyond strengthening our HPC capabilities, what convinced me most is how closely our visions align. We share the same belief in European technology, open ecosystems, technological independence and more responsible infrastructure. Together, we'll continue building a sovereign European platform where Cloud, AI and HPC come together to support the next generation of industrial and AI innovation. A special thanks to Clément Pellegrini, Paul Benoit and the entire Qarnot team. I'm excited to start this new chapter together.
Damien Lucas a partagé ceciReflection from VivaTech #2: Announcements are only the beginning. Last week, I wrote about the partnerships we unveiled at VivaTech, and what they say about Scaleway’s maturity and ambition. But announcements are only the beginning. What matters is execution: moving from a shared vision to a working deployment, from a press release to production, from trust in principle to trust in practice. I’m happy to say we have delivered on this front. One year on, the partnership we announced with France Télévisions at VivaTech last year has now turned into concrete progress, enabling the continued improvement of Alix, France TV’s integrated cloud platform. Meanwhile, ten projects have already benefitted from the public-private continuum we developed with GENCI and CNRS to power the best of European research. Among them is Sillon, RATPgroup’s first open source AI model, developed with pleias. After being trained entirely on GENCI’s public computing resources, Sillon was deployed for large-scale inference on Scaleway’s platform. It now supports the work of thousands of RATP agents. And with the French Health Data Hub (Plateforme des données de santé), the promise is just as clear — one year from announcement, we aim to be in production too. This is what successful migration looks like: a structured path toward practical, usable innovation. Albane Bruyas Doreen Pernel Alexia Boulot Jean-Baptiste Kempf Béatrice Harrois Stéphane G. Damien Lucas a partagé ceciReflection from VivaTech #1: Scaleway is playing in the big leagues. For Scaleway, this year’s edition of VivaTech marked a step change in ambition and scale. Over four packed days, we unveiled new partners including: 🔷 LVMH, the world’s leading luxury group; 🔷 MAIF, one of France’s major insurance players managing €23 billion in assets; 🔷 Ouest-France, the media group behind France’s most widely read daily newspaper; and 🔷 ChapsVision, the AI and data intelligence champion serving some of the most sensitive sectors. The industries may differ, but the underlying need is the same: trusted European technology that helps organizations regain control over their data, costs, and dependencies. For us, this isn’t an overnight success story. We have been building toward this moment for years: continuously expanding our product portfolio, strengthening compliance through both generic and industry-specific certifications and qualifications, and putting in place the structure and processes that make for successful collaboration. I want to commend every Scaler whose work made this achievement possible. I know I speak for all of them when I say that we’re proud to be partnering with organizations of this caliber. Damien Lucas a partagé ceciThe “kill switch” was never hypothetical. You’ve already seen the news by now. In fact, your business operations may have been impacted by it. On Saturday, Anthropic announced that it was suspending access to both Fable 5 and Mythos 5 after receiving a US export-control directive restricting access by foreign nationals. It would be painfully easy to say “I told you so,” but there is nothing to celebrate here. This is the last occurrence in a concerning pattern. Just remember: In 2022, Elon Musk reportedly ordered the shutdown of Starlink service in parts of Ukraine during military operations. In May 2025, an International Criminal Court prosecutor in The Hague abruptly lost access to his Microsoft email account after the ICC got in the US government’s crosshairs. After connectivity, after software, an AI model is the latest critical capability to be interrupted or restricted by decisions taken outside Europe. The infamous “kill switch” was never hypothetical. At Scaleway, we’ve been building for that reality for years. As a 100% European company, we keep our customers’ data safe from extraterritorial law — meaning, foreign interference. We also pursue technology independence across the stack, from software (by developing our stack in-house) to hardware (through active vendor diversification), to minimize the risk of disruption. These principles have never mattered more. If you’re at VivaTech this week, and want to see how they can serve your goals in cloud and AI, be sure to stop by our booth. We're looking forward to seeing you there.

Damien Lucas a aimé ceciDamien Lucas a aimé ceciAirbus is moving 70 of its most critical applications from AWS to French cloud provider Scaleway, the first phase of a broader plan covering around 900 systems needed to keep the company operational. The full article plus background stories on Scaleway, and subject expert comments is on Vesta’s Mighty Networks space; https://lnkd.in/emGRx65B Summary: The applications include ERP, manufacturing, CRM, engineering and product-lifecycle software. Scaleway reportedly won a contract worth more than €50 million over up to ten years, based on technical performance, resilience, competitive pricing and protection from non-European laws. The main driver is digital sovereignty, particularly concern that the US CLOUD Act could allow American authorities to access data held by US technology companies abroad. Airbus is not abandoning US providers entirely: AWS will continue supporting its Skywise platform and other tools, while Microsoft, Google, Salesforce and others remain in use. Instead, Airbus is applying a risk-based approach, placing its most sensitive data with European providers while retaining non-European services where the data is less critical. #VESTA #EUROPE #TRUSTED #INDUSTRY

Damien Lucas a aimé ceciDamien Lucas a aimé ceci🇪🇺🇫🇷 Airbus is moving 70 of its most critical applications from AWS to Scaleway, including the software that holds much of the intellectual property behind an aeroplane, with up to 900 to follow. Somewhere in the tender sits a peculiar line item: proof that a legal order served on the vendor, not on Airbus, could not still switch the service off. Airbus put it plainly: protect the data that matters most from laws that reach across borders, and keep control of the business. Airbus still buys from Microsoft, Google, Salesforce and Workday. It just no longer hands them everything. Europe spent years building its capability: certification regimes, evaluation frameworks, evidence hard to dismiss as a compliance department's bedtime story. What it rarely had, until Airbus, was a company willing to spend real money proving it works. Europe lacked commercial conviction. The public sector supplied the proof of concept, in ascending order of discomfort. Schleswig-Holstein proves it scales: Microsoft gone from 80 per cent of workstations, 40,000 mailboxes, 100 million emails. France's Health Data Hub proves it survives contact with material that matters: health records for tens of millions, after regulators refused Microsoft a permanent transfer. Austria's armed forces and, this month, the Swiss Army's Cyber Command prove it survives contact with people paid to be paranoid for a living. The International Criminal Court proves the switch gets thrown on people too: its chief prosecutor lost Microsoft access weeks after being sanctioned. Then, three days after launch, Anthropic's own Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5 went dark worldwide on a Commerce Department order aimed at foreign nationals, Anthropic's own non-US staff included. Unable to verify nationality fast enough, it switched everyone off rather than risk it. I've made this argument for years and watched it dismissed as panic. Nobody needs it explained after Fable 5: a company with every reason not to alienate European customers had no say in the matter. That also answers the objection before it's raised: a hyperscaler would never do this, never cut off paying customers, never shoot itself in the foot. Well, of course they would if they must. Brussels's own procurement criteria, the eight sovereignty objectives and SEAL scale behind its €180 million cloud contracts this spring, look less like bureaucratic theatre and more like a rehearsal for the exam Airbus has now sat for itself. The criteria aren't identical but the direction is. Bosch Mobility actually surfaced first, signing a memorandum with Schwarz Digits weeks before Airbus, for STACKIT's cloud, not a hyperscaler workaround with a European sticker. Still only a memorandum, not a migration. Airbus brought the harder evidence: an awarded contract, workloads leaving AWS, a deadline. One announcement is caution. Two, weeks apart, look like a market finally moving.

Damien Lucas a aimé ceciDamien Lucas a aimé ceciAirbus is moving critical apps off Amazon Web Services (AWS) to French cloud provider Scaleway — part of a broader digital sovereignty push. Scope: 70 apps now, with a plan to eventually cover ~900 "minimum viable company" applications — including ERP, manufacturing, CRM, and product-lifecycle systems tied to aircraft design and engineering. Why: 1. To shield sensitive data from the US CLOUD Act, which lets US authorities request data held by American firms even in overseas data centers. 2. Airbus's digital chief, Catherine Jestin, said the move keeps critical data "shielded from foreign extraterritorial laws." 3. Deal size: Scaleway (owned by France's iliad Group) won the tender, worth more than €50 million over up to 10 years. Not a full break with Amazon Web Services (AWS): Airbus is keeping AWS for its Skywise aviation-data platform and a customer-support tool, and still uses Microsoft, Google, Salesforce, Coupa, and Workday elsewhere. Context: This lands amid rising US-EU friction and a wider European push toward sovereign cloud — AWS, Microsoft, and Google have all rolled out "sovereign" cloud offerings to try to reassure European customers, and a Microsoft exec reportedly told a French court under oath last year that the company couldn't guarantee data sovereignty. Nord-IQ Research POV: Ties directly into the IT-spending conversation above — this is a live example of enterprise "services" dollars shifting away from US hyperscalers toward European sovereign alternatives, which is becoming a bigger theme in the ~$1.87T global IT services market. #Airbus #Scaleway #AWS #DigitalSovereignty #CloudComputing #EuropeTech #CLOUDAct #SovereignCloud #TechPolicy #FranceTech

The industry has been stumbling in the dark trying to enable high quality OTT delivery, especially for live streams. This paper will show that there is light at the end of the tunnel and provide a blueprint for how OTT distribution will eventually extend the supremacy of broadcasting for live content. We will explore the history of OTT content distribution and then, after looking at the big picture, will drill down into the critical video content packaging function – including its risks. Then we will demonstrate how positioning this function correctly within the CDN will prove the most cost-effective way of getting to that light by 2015. While new technologies may appear to undermine existing broadcasting incumbents, by embracing emerging CDN and delivery technologies wholeheartedly, they can convert these threats into opportunities. Many hybrid broadcast solutions have already shown this.
