exp_l3_knowledge.py — Layer-3 knowledge-dependency test (answers CeLp).
CeLp's concern: L3 compares each document against the model's parametric answer,
so on recent / domain-specific facts the model never learned, the verifier has no
reliable prior. We show TRIS handles this safely: when the model has no confident
prior, L3 ABSTAINS (fail-open, removes nothing), and the structural layers (L1/L2)
still filter the poison. L3 therefore never *hurts* on unknown facts.
Self-contained: a hand-built slice of clearly post-cutoff / niche questions
(GPT-3.5-turbo-0125 cutoff is ~Sep 2021). For each we build a candidate pool of
neutral "clean" passages asserting the true answer plus black-box poisons
(verbatim query trigger + false answer), run the real TriLayerSieve with L3
always-on, and report: did L3 abstain, how many poisons were removed and by which
layer, and how many CLEAN docs L3 wrongly dropped.
Usage:
export OPENAI_API_KEY="YOUR_KEY"
python exp_l3_knowledge.py --json_out results/rebuttal/l3_knowledge.json
