What is the difference between "basic" and "hybrid" for header.layout?

What is the difference between "basic" and "hybrid" for header.layout?
I have been unable to find any documentation of example of the difference between the two values. I have tried both on the site I am building, but I cannot see any difference. The page looks and responds identically. I was hoping that "hybrid" might provide some extra flexibility with menu items, but I am not finding any. I am just curious what differs in functionality between the two.

The difference with "hamburger" is obvious so I am using that for now as it serves my needs.
