This is a huge usability regression since it takes much longer to navigate to the page and go back to the projects view rather than keeping the projects view open with the drawer for the issue preview.

The same behaviour has just started to occur for me - was working fine a week ago, but now that I'm back from a holiday, clicking on an issue opens it in place, rather than opening the side panel. This is extremely annoying.

So I have to manage, give or take, at least a 100 issues a week in multiple kanbans and Github still makes me open and load the whole issue page instead of just opening it in the drawer which is much faster... this is very annoying and I'm at the point of wanting to go use a different service.

Can we at least get some clarification on why this change happened? Furthermore, on my co-worker's work machine, Github still opens the issue in a drawer like before (I can't describe how faster and convenient it is to open it in the drawer), so is it just us unlucky few? or is it a bug affecting only some users/browser, etc?

Yes, I've noticed the same - this problem only happens for me in my team - everyone else it behaves as expected. Also I've notice the drawer behaviour still works on our 'roadmap' tab.

Interestingly, have just tested it in Edge and it works as it did before - so I'm guessing this may be a Chrome plugin that's messing things up.

Following your comment, I went ahead and signed-in in Chrome, I use Firefox. lo and behold, the issue doesn't happen there, only on Firefox for me. Even though you use Chrome, it's happening to you. Weird.

I'm also getting this. And it's erratic, sometimes I get the problem, sometimes not.

I use Firefox, and I have the Refined Github add-on, I wonder if it's related.

This totally breaks the work flow. I lose my Project tabs, because they turn into issue tabs and then I have to go looking for where I should be pressing "Back" to get my Project view again 🙄 😡

I have found the reason this is happening, to me at least.

It's happening because Github refined (https://github.com/refined-github/refined-github). Among its features is no-modals... IDK if this is a new feature or not but it wasn't doing anything before, anyway, turn it off and the drawers in the projects window should work again.

In the extension settings there's Features section, you can search for no-modals in there and turn it off.

This was tested to be working on Firefox. Huge thanks to @pgorod for mentioning the extension in his comment which reminded me and inspired me to investigate there.
