MacBook and Xcode freezes when using GitHub Copilot Extension

I’m experiencing severe performance issues on my Mac when opening or using the GitHub Copilot Xcode Extension. These issues occur consistently and make both Xcode and the entire system almost unusable while the extension is active.

Here are the problems I’m facing:

• The entire Mac slows down significantly; apps take a long time to open and the system can freeze.
• The Mac’s fan ramps up to maximum speed.
• Input events (keyboard and mouse) have a large delay or get lost entirely.
• Xcode becomes unresponsive: it won’t open files, it ignores keyboard shortcuts, and often freezes.
• The Copilot chat panel takes 20–30 seconds to open, during which the whole system becomes frozen.
• Once the chat is open, it behaves with a large delay — both when typing and when scrolling.
• The product becomes practically unusable in this state.
• This happens in both large and small Xcode projects.
• The overall performance of the Mac degrades to the point of being unusable.

Tested Xcode versions:

• 26.0.1
• 16.4

Tested GitHub Copilot Xcode Extension versions:

• 0.43.0
• 0.44.0
• 0.45.0

System Information:

• MacBook Pro (2021) — Apple M1 Max
• 32 GB RAM
• macOS Sequoia 15.6.1

Hi again,

I wanted to check whether this message has reached the right people or if there’s any ongoing investigation regarding this issue. The problem is still happening consistently with version 0.45.0.

To be honest, the product remains unusable while these issues persist, and I’m not sure I can continue paying for the subscription under these conditions. :(

At the very least, I would appreciate some feedback to confirm that this forum and this issue are being seen and that it serves a purpose.

Unfortunately, I can't find it to be stable either. Preferably use Code-OSS right now; it's probably better
