GitHub education ID upload bug fix (Red exclamation icon) - Finally found the solution

Hi everyone,

If your GitHub Education Student Developer Pack application gets stuck when uploading your student ID - the red exclamation icon with no error message - here’s the solution that finally worked for me:

Do NOT upload the same file again.
GitHub seems to cache failed uploads and silently rejects the same file (same checksum / same filename).

To fix it:

• Convert your ID to another format (JPG → PNG or PNG → JPG)
• Change the filename (even “id2.png” works)
• Upload the new file

After doing that, the red exclamation icon disappeared instantly and my application went into “Pending review”.

I had tried:

• multiple networks (campus Wi-Fi, 4G)
• multiple browsers
• incognito mode
• different devices
• clearing cache and cookies

None of that worked, but converting the file + renaming it does.

Hope this helps anyone stuck with the same issue.
