Hi there! 👋 Since GitHub rolled out the new Code Search engine (Blackbird), the capabilities have gone way beyond just filtering by language. It is incredibly powerful if you know the right syntax. Here is my personal "Cheatsheet" of filters that I use daily to cut through the noise: 1. The Noise Cancelers (Exclusions)The
2. The "Needle in a Haystack" (File Location)When you know roughly where the code lives, strictly bound the search to file paths or extensions.
3. The Boolean Logic (grouping)You can use
4. The Power User Move: Regular ExpressionsMany users don't realize the new search supports Regex. You just have to wrap your query in slashes
5. Scope it to your OrgIf you are working in a large company, never search "globally" first. Always anchor to your org.
Summary: Hope this helps speed up your workflow! |

The filters that made a difference for me:
A nice shift: use the new Code Search (the magnifying glass icon in the top bar) instead of the old search for file content. It understands code structure. def:functionName finds definitions. ref:ClassName finds usages. These are fundamentally different from text matching. |
