GitHub Copilot app support for BYOK (Bring your own key)

The GitHub Copilot app now supports bring your own key (BYOK), so you can run agent sessions against your own model providers, including OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Foundry, Anthropic, Ollama, and any OpenAI-compatible endpoint.

Add a provider in Settings → BYOK with your endpoint and API key (or just a host, for Azure and Ollama). Once added, your provider's models appear in the model picker alongside Copilot-hosted models, and you choose per session which one to use. Keys are stored in the local OS keychain and are never read back by the UI.

With BYOK you can:

• Use the contracts you already have. Point sessions at an Azure OpenAI deployment, an Anthropic contract, a self-hosted Ollama instance, or an internal OpenAI-compatible gateway, and keep your own billing, quotas, region, and data-handling terms.
• Stay consistent across surfaces. BYOK builds on the existing provider support in the Copilot CLI and SDK, so the same provider works whether you invoke it from the command line or the GitHub Copilot app.
• Keep traffic in your tenant. A good fit for regulated and enterprise environments where inference traffic must stay inside a specific cloud account or tenant.

Note: To access the GitHub Copilot app on a Copilot Business or Enterprise plan, your organization or enterprise admin must have the Copilot CLI enabled in policy settings.
