From best-effort to best-in-class: Guaranteeing 5G experience with AI

China Mobile Fujian and ZTE introduce AI-powered Quality of Experience (QoE) guarantees, transforming 5G from best-effort delivery to a user-centric, reliable, and monetizable service model.

PARTNER CONTENT A core challenge in 5G development is the gap between growing user demand for bandwidth-intensive applications and network congestion in high-density scenarios, which severely impacts experience. This imbalance has limited 5G's full potential. To address this, China Mobile Fujian and ZTE jointly launched the AI G-QoE (Quality of Experience Guarantee) service under the guidance of the China Mobile Group, fundamentally changing the dynamic. Its value comes from shifting network management away from pure KPI metrics toward a user-perceivable, deterministic service experience.

First, the AI system delivers a lag-free experience even during peak hours. It identifies active applications—such as HD streaming, online gaming, or video conferencing—in real time, allocating dedicated network resources within milliseconds, immune to surrounding congestion. In deployments on the Fuzhou Metro, peak-hour commuters achieved over 30% higher data rates, effectively resolving common complaints of poor connectivity underground.

Second, a superior network experience becomes a purchasable service. Using capacity forecasting technology, operators can now offer premium service plans based on experience guarantees—not just data volume. For example, Fuzhou's "Metro Premium Commute Guarantee Pack" doesn't just provide 10GB of data; it guarantees smooth HD video without stutter and lag-free intense gaming. This shift from selling data traffic to providing a deterministic experience directly meets users' core need: reliable connectivity.

Third, the value proposition is clearly justified. The sale of 2,000 5G-A Acceleration Packs within the first month shows users' willingness to pay for reliable, scenario-specific quality. This allows operators to directly monetize their 5G/5G-A investments by introducing a new user payment model built on "premium experience as a service".

The collaboration between China Mobile Fujian and ZTE addresses critical 5G-era pain points, turning advances in network intelligence into tangible business value. It marks a pivotal shift for mobile users—from best-effort delivery to a reliable, deterministic experience guarantee.
