An alumnus of Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, he has a strong track record of using data to shape smarter business decisions, improve customer experiences, and accelerate product growth. Throughout his career, Anurag has developed deep expertise in data architecture, predictive modeling, and decision science — all tied to practical business outcomes. Before joining Snabbit, he held leadership positions at CRED, Dream11, Swiggy, Uber, American Express, and HSBC. At CRED, he led Product Analytics, uncovering insights that helped boost user engagement and growth. His time at Swiggy and Dream11 refined his skills in pricing, gamification, and marketing analytics. Earlier roles at Uber, American Express, and HSBC gave him a strong foundation in data-driven decision-making and business analysis. In his new role at Snabbit, Anurag will lead the company’s Data function — developing advanced analytics, modern data platforms, and insight systems that empower business and customer innovation. India has 6.3 crore MSMEs. Only a fraction access formal credit. Are they unbankable or only unreadable - by systems never designed to read them? The constraint isn’t capital. It’s access. More precisely - a credit assessment system built for a very different kind of borrower. India’s MSME credit gap is estimated at nearly $540 billion. Most of these businesses are ‘thin-file’ borrowers. No collateral. Limited credit history. Financial behaviour that traditional scoring models cannot read. But the absence of traditional credit data does not mean the absence of information. Many MSMEs leave behind rich financial signals: - GST filings revealing revenue cycles - UPI transactions showing cash flow discipline - Bank statements capturing operational behaviour - Telecom payment history indicating financial consistency. Just not in places the credit system historically looked. This is the idea behind Alternative Credit Scoring - assessing creditworthiness not from what a borrower pledges, but from how they actually behave financially. Other markets have already explored this. In South Korea, the Korea Credit Guarantee Fund analyses commercial transaction data rather than collateral. KT Corporation generates credit scores from telecom payment behaviour. Naver Financial uses real-time e-commerce data to evaluate merchant reliability. Each approach asks the same question: what else can tell us whether a borrower will repay? India may be uniquely positioned to answer this at scale with: - UPI volumes exceeding 18,000 crore transactions annually, - Account Aggregator framework enabling consent-based data sharing and - Unified Lending Interface standardising digital credit flows. These systems together create something larger than a payments ecosystem. They create a new data layer for credit assessment. But alternative credit models introduce new complexities that deserve equal attention. The signals are less standardised. - A UPI model might misread seasonal cash flows. - A GST signal could mistake a temporary revenue dip for structural weakness. - A Telecom score might penalise connectivity gaps rather than repayment behaviour. To me, a model is not just an algorithm. It is a decision instrument that influences capital, growth, and risk appetite. When that instrument is deciding who gets access to credit for the first time - the stakes of getting the governance wrong are not abstract. India has the data. India has the infrastructure. The models are being built.
