Overview
Aleph is developing autonomous surgical robots, combining embodied AI models with purpose-built hardware. Its March 2026 research preview shows a lab demonstration of vascular anastomosis: joining blood vessels through precise, sustained manipulation. The Bay Area team is building toward autonomous surgery.

Product story
On March 9, Aleph shared a laboratory demonstration and described its approach to embodied foundation models. The team combines broad pretraining with hierarchical planning that breaks procedures into smaller tasks. Its Mark 0 hardware is designed around autonomous control, while a layered system coordinates reasoning, sensing and movement. Aleph describes this as ongoing research toward use beyond the lab.

Own the robot embodiment
The Founding Hardware Engineer spans mechanical design, electronics and control systems. Medical device experience is not required for this role.
Train models and build the system
The Founding AI Engineer owns model training and the software enabling autonomous surgery. The role welcomes candidates without prior robotics experience.
Help define what robots learn
The part-time Founding Surgeon defines surgical training curricula and benchmarks. This role connects clinical expertise with robot learning.
Build training data with surgeons
The part-time Surgical Associate works with surgeons to collect and curate data from robotic-assisted procedures on synthetic, ex-vivo and cadaver systems.
Hands-on surgical collaboration
Both surgical roles are part-time, with work at Aleph’s Bay Area lab or the applicant’s institution.
