🌟 Understanding the Budget: A Child-Friendly Guide! 🌟 At Mtoto News, we believe that children's voices matter. Every decision made in the budgeting process impacts their education, health, and overall well-being. That's why we've developed a child-friendly budget guide to simplify complex financial concepts and make sure every child understands what the budget means for them. This year marks a historic moment as Parliament will, for the first time, hold public participation sessions involving children from 11 counties across the country: 1️⃣ Laikipia County 2️⃣ Elgeyo Marakwet County 3️⃣ Uasin Gishu County 4️⃣ Nandi County 5️⃣ Migori County 6️⃣ Wajir County 7️⃣ Kwale County 8️⃣ Samburu County 9️⃣ Nyeri County 🔟 Trans Nzoia County 1️⃣1️⃣ Makueni County This is a monumental step towards ensuring that children's voices are heard and respected in the national budgeting process. Through this initiative, young minds will have the opportunity to express their views, understand resource allocation, and contribute to policies that shape their futures. Join us in building a generation that is informed, engaged, and empowered. Because when children understand the budget, they can help shape it! #Makingchildrenvisible #ChildFriendlyBudgetKe

Right now at Mtoto News, Amanda Manyame, digital rights advisor and mother, is guiding children through what it means to be safe online and the conversation is as enlightening for adults as it is for the children themselves. Amanda is highlighting how digital rights, privacy, safety, and freedom of expression act as a protective safety net for every child navigating online spaces. She’s connecting real-life experiences, like identity theft, exposure to inappropriate content, and online bullying, to practical guidance: what children should know, what to share, which apps are age-appropriate, and how to report risks. Her work bridges policy, technology, and everyday parenting, reminding us that protecting children online requires not just rules, but awareness, advocacy, and a listening ear. At Mtoto News, we are committed to amplifying these insights because digital safety is a right, and understanding it is a shared responsibility. #DigitalSafety #DigitalRights #ChildRights #SafeOnline #MtotoNews #YouthEmpowerment

A child just said, ‘I wish the internet had a lock that only kind people could open.’” In that sentence, innocence became wisdom, revealing how children see what adults often overlook. Today, children are redefining digital safety in their own words: What consent feels like, What kindness costs, And why privacy is power. They’re not just participants in this training. They’re dreamers of a different internet, One built on care, not clicks. Each voice rising here becomes a ripple, Carrying forward the truth that safety online is a child’s right, not a privilege. #ChildVoices #DigitalSafety #SafeOnline #MtotoNews #DigitalFutures

The screens flicker to life. Tiny faces glow back, curious, cautious, full of hope. Today, we begin the Digital Safety Training for Children (10–17 years), a space where learning meets courage. Here, children aren’t just scrolling; they’re discovering the power in protection. They’re learning that the internet can be both a friend and a foe; a playground of ideas and a maze of risks. They’re finding their voices in a digital world that too often forgets to listen. This training is part of a larger vision to make the digital world a place where every child can express, explore, and exist safely. Where “online” no longer means unprotected. Where being connected never means being exposed. Each reflection shared, each question asked, is more than participation, it’s resistance. A quiet rebellion against digital harm. A moment of awakening, where a child learns that consent is a right, not a request. Where privacy is not a privilege, but protection. Where safety online begins with knowing your worth offline Because the internet doesn’t raise children, communities do. And today, that community is coming alive through this training. Mtoto News, in partnership with Plan International AU Liaison Office, Brave Movement, Equality Now, and ECPAT International, is proud to help children claim their digital rights and their future. 🗓️ 4th October 2025 💻 Virtual Training for Children (10–17 years): https://lnkd.in/dYWaG9qJ Part of the pre-G20 Digital Safety Training & Consultation #DigitalSafety #SafeDigitalFutures #ChildRights #OnlineSafety #MtotoNews #G20 #DigitalLiteracy #ChildSafety #SafeDigitalFutures #ChildParticipation Brave Movement Plan International Kenya Centre for Information Resilience ECPAT International Equality Now

Earlier this week, I had the opportunity to join a Roundtable Consultation on Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence, hosted courtesy of TikTok. The discussion was eye-opening it went beyond women’s experiences to also highlight the risks faced by children and other vulnerable groups online. We also received a pamphlet outlining 10 ways TikTok is protecting the privacy and safety of younger community members. It is clear that TikTok is keen on making efforts to ensure safer, more inclusive digital spaces, especially for its younger users while also supporting parents and caregivers in guiding safe online engagement. Key takeaways from the session: -Tackling online harms requires multi-stakeholder collaboration tech platforms, policymakers, civil society, parents, and communities must work together. -The use of local languages and lingo for different countries will make it easier to identify inappropriate or harmful words, helping platforms respond more effectively to online abuse. -Awareness and digital literacy remain critical, especially for young people navigating online platforms. -Online violence has real-world consequences; prevention and response must include social and community support. -Supporting parents and caregivers is essential in building resilience and safety for younger users. At Mtoto News we are committed in amplifying children voices on matters affecting them and we believe that every child deserves a safe, inclusive, and empowering digital environment Let’s keep working together to create supportive, inclusive, and safe digital environments for everyone. #OnlineSafety #DigitalWellbeing #TechForGood #GenderEquality #ChildSafety #DigitalInclusion #ResponsibleTech #SaferInternet #AIForGood

Thank you for this beautiful reflection At Mtoto News, we truly believe that children’s voices belong at the center of every conversation about education and technology. Seeing our young leaders step up with such confidence and clarity was a proud moment a reminder that when we give children the platform, they don’t just speak, they inspire and challenge us to think differently. This is why we do what we do. Grateful to the amazing team, partners, and most importantly, the children, for reminding us that the future of EdTech must be inclusive, child-centered, and led with courage.
NATIONAL EDTECH SUMMIT 2025, Take Three, and probably the most impressive. When we talk about education, at the center of this are children whose futures are at stake. Their voices were supreme and echoed from the rooms at CEMASTEA, as they pitched their policy design challenges to the audiences. In one of the rooms, two amazing kids from Mtoto News pitched what they believe would be important to be included in an EdTech policy, and they did not mince their words when vouching for inclusivity. Beyond all the amazing things they said about inclusivity, what struck me the most was the poise, calmness and clarity of the young teens. Without a doubt, their ability to think on their feet when challenged by the audience and the judges was outstanding and admirable. The work that the team led by Catherine Karoki and Atulo Joseph is doing at the organization to build future leaders is commendable. #InclusiveEdTech #ChildrenVoices #NationalEdTechSummit #EsomaKids #MtotoNews
