  • : “We are grateful to Plan International. They walked with us through the entire process ; from creation of the Participatory Forest Management Plan (PFMP), registration at the Attorney General’s office, to now validation and very soon the launch of the Community Forest Association(CFA) .” Chairperson, Kaya Chonyi CFA. This was echoed during the validation of the Participatory Forest Management Plan (PFMP) for Kaya Chonyi Forest in the County Government of Kilifi a community-led plan developed with technical support from the Kenya Forest Service (KFS) and in partnership with the #COSME Project, funded by Global Affairs Canada | Affaires mondiales Canada. This initiative aims to enhance forest management, generate economic benefits for local communities, and build capacity for sustainable development. Phase 1 of CFA formation was completed last year, followed by a five-day workshop that produced the PFMP for Kaya Chonyi. The plan ensures sustainable and inclusive management of forest resources, especially where communities and stakeholders directly depend on them. Stakeholders in attendance included the County Government of Kilifi (directorates such as Tourism and Environment), ward administrators, local authorities and chiefs, youth-led organizations, CSOs, and other conservation actors. “We have a role to play as a CFA and all stakeholders working alongside it. We are ambassadors to ensure the community understands the importance of conservation. It starts with us!” Eston Nyaga, Program Area Manager, Coastal Hub, Plan International Kenya This validation now paves the way for the official launch of the Kaya Chonyi Community Forest Association,: a model for inclusive, community-driven forest management with co-benefits. #CommunityLed #ForestConservation #CommunityForestAssociations

  • Seaweed is more than a crop. It is food, income, medicine, and a pathway to climate resilience. In Lungalunga, Kwale, the women of Amka Ustamba seaweed group know this well. Each morning, they walk over 2km to the shoreline and further into the chilly waters, braving the cold dawn to tend their seaweed farms. What starts in the water turns into income and, through Gender Responsive Savings Groups (GRSGs), into savings that cushion families against climate shocks. “I want to build a permanent house for my family. Every time I save from seaweed farming, I know I’m getting closer.” Nassoro, member of Amka Ustamba seaweed group. This is the power of seaweed. Creating sustainable livelihoods, building resilience, and fueling women’s dreams. The #COSME Project by Plan International Kenya, with the support of Global Affairs Canada | Affaires mondiales Canada and technical expertise from Cascadia Seaweed, is proud to stand with these women as they turn seaweed into strength for their communities. It’s time to recognize seaweed farming not just as a livelihood, but as a climate solution. Let’s keep building pathways where women lead the way. #SeaweedFarming #ClimateResilience #BlueEconomy #WomenEmpowerment

  • Status of #ChildProtection in Kenya. This morning, Principal Secretary State Department for Children Services Carren Agengo and Plan International Kenya Child Rights and Safeguarding Officer Peninah Jerono were at KBC English Service studios to discuss the Status of Child Protection in Kenya. Moderated by the radio host Nick Ndeda the topics of discussion include: 📍 Addressing Online Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse in Kenya through the National Plan of Action 2022-2026. 📍Parental responsibilities - protection begins from the household level from the parents and/or guardians. 📍Role of learning institutions - teachers at the frontline in ensuring protection of children. 📍Role of cultural and religious leaders as key influencing actors in raising awareness and influencing behaviours, shifting norms and attitudes within their respective communities. 📍 Implementation of the Children Act (2022) on children's rights and welfare to ensure children are protected from abuse and neglect, through the laid legal policies and frameworks. A child-focused organisation, Plan International works in collaboration with the government and other like-minded stakeholders to protect #children-the future leaders, to lead, decide and thrive in a conducive environment where their rights to health, safety and development are upheld. #ChildRights #Safeguarding

On #WorldHumanitarianDay I want to thank aid workers around the world, most of whom are on the front lines, standing side by side with communities day in and day out. It’s a day to celebrate their dedication, courage and their conviction that by "levelling the playing field" just a little – we can build a better world. Humanitarians don’t reflect on themselves. You will hear most say it is a privilege to work in this sector. But with all that is going on, this year, it is time to pause and think about what they contribute.   Thank you to all of you who provide a lifeline and hope to so many across the world, and believe in a brighter future for all. #ActForHumanity

  • "The journey of being a #humanitarian has taught me that dignity begins with access — to clean water, safe sanitation, and basic hygiene. My experience with refugees and host communities reflects the true meaning of resilience and humanity. It’s about ensuring no child drinks contaminated water, no woman walks miles for a bucket of water, and no community is left vulnerable to preventable diseases. Aid without respect is a transaction. Aid with dignity is transformation. On this #WorldHumanitarianDay, let our efforts be guided by the unwavering belief that dignity is not earned. It’s inherent. 🌍, " remarks Dorothy. #ActForHumanity

  • "Humanity grows stronger when we show up for each other. Today we celebrate the hands that build, the hearts that care, and the strength of coming together for the well-being of children, girls, and women, and the communities they hold together, " remarks Leila As we mark #WorldHumanitarianDay 2025, we extend our deepest GRATITUDE to humanitarian workers worldwide who selflessly dedicate their time to provide lifesaving support and protection to those who need it the most. Your compassion changes lives. George Otim UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency Unni Krishnan County Government of Turkana

  • This week, we celebrate #WorldHumanitarianDay. We are honouring all the humanitarians, partners and volunteers who are committed to helping those in need with lifesaving action. We stand in solidarity with global humanitarian workers who at the center of their work aim to empower local and global communities at large. Quoting Plan International's Global Humanitarian Director, Unni Krishnan, "Humanitarian workers are the heartbeat in chaos, the hope in despair. On the frontlines and fault lines of wars and disasters, humanitarians remind us of the very best of what it means to be human and to defend humanity. This year’s theme, #ActForHumanity, is a call to protect those who protect others. " World Humanitarian Day is not only about remembrance - it is a call to action. To choose humanity. To defend dignity. And to ensure that those who serve on the frontlines of compassion are never forgotten.
