Hello Wikimedians,
WikiConference North America 2025
<https://wikiconference.org/wiki/2025/Main_Page> from October 16th to 19th,
2025 is just a few weeks away and we're excited to welcome over 300
participants from across the United States, Mexico, Canada, Central
America, and the Caribbean to NYC for 4 days of cultural experiences,
speakers, and workshops! There are a few important announcements to make as
the conference approaches:
- The deadline for in-person conference registration is next week *Tuesday,
September 30th* and tickets are selling out fast. If in-person tickets
are sold out, you are welcome to get a free virtual ticket and participate
in the conference online. Or you can join the waitlist.
- The culture crawl and programs schedule
<https://wikiconference.org/wiki/2025/Program>for WikiConference North
America are live! And registration is open for the culture crawl. Spots are
limited for the culture crawl tours so please be mindful of capacity.
- All registered in-person participants will receive access to an event
manual closer to the conference that will include detailed information
about event logistics and trust and safety. If you are a registered
attendee, please keep an eye out for that in your emails.
- If you signed up to volunteer at the conference, thank you! You should
have received a volunteer survey and calendar invites to the volunteer
orientation calls. If you didn't receive that, please let us know.
*If you have any questions, please send an email to 2025(a)wikiconference.org
<2025(a)wikiconference.org>*.
Thanks,
Pacita

Hi all,
With Wikiconference North America (WCNA) in NYC only a few weeks away,
we've decided to host a sticker design contest to expand our collection of
WikiNYC swag! We invite all avid Wikimedians, NYC enthusiasts, and artists
to submit sticker designs for a chance to have them distributed at WCNA and
other upcoming major events.
In the spirit of our mission and for logistical purposes, there are a few
ground rules:
- All intended details and decorative elements should be easily visible
in a sticker fitting within a square or rectangle having an area of at most
9 in² (58 cm²; a square with a side length of 3 inches), to facilitate
printing and usability. Oversized designs will be scaled down to fit.
- If a topic is contentious on-wiki, it should not be the focus of a
design. Stickers should not be overtly political.
- Similarly, there must not be any hidden or potentially offensive
messages embedded within a design.
- All sticker designs will be released under a Commons-compatible
license (CC-0/PD, CC BY, or CC BY-SA), so cannot contain any copyrighted
images or logos. The Wikipedia and WikiNYC logos are permitted, as are
screenshots of Wikipedia pages, as they satisfy licensing requirements.
- Collaboration on designs is permitted, as long as all contributors are
properly credited.
That said, be bold! Stickers may consist of text, graphics, or any
combination thereof. Please send designs to info[at]wikimedianyc.org by
11:59 PM EDT on September 28th, 2025.
Looking forward to seeing your designs!
- Giancarlo (User:ComplexRational) and the WikiNYC Board
Please join Wikimedia NYC for our Members’ Meeting <
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/Election_2024> on
September 10, 2025. The Members' Meeting is similar to other WikiWednesday
meetups, except that its primary function is to elect new members to the
Board of Directors and set the stage for activities over the coming year.
We will elect three board seats, half of the elected seats on the board.
After being elected, those elected can potentially appoint more seats.
If you've been active in the chapter and looking for ways to deepen your
engagement, consider putting yourself forward! If you know someone who you
think would be a good fit for the Wikimedia NYC Board, encourage them to
self-nominate, too! The deadline to nominate yourself (recently extended)
is September 7.
Voting (open to all chapter members) will be via a secure third party
service, and will be possible both online and in-person, in a period
starting a couple of days before. Your email address will be required to
vote in order to validate members, but your vote itself will be anonymous.
The meetup page
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/Election_2025> has some
additional information for prospective candidates.
Please respond directly to this email if you have any questions about the
election or running for chapter board.
Thanks,
Richard
