The Boston Bruins picked up their first win of the preseason on Tuesday thanks to a stellar performance from Mikey Eyssimont.

Eyssimont signed a two-year, $2.9 million deal with the Bruins in the offseason. The 29-year-old is looking to add more secondary scoring to the Bruins’ lineup, and he did just that against the New York Rangers.

Eyssimont had two goals and an assist in the Bruins’ 5-4 OT win on the road.

Following the game, Bruins coach Marco Sturm was impressed with the veteran player and his work ethic.

“It’s nice to see him get rewarded. He works extremely hard,” Sturm said after the game of Eyssimont. “What I like about him, he doesn’t complain. He accepts his role, whatever it is, and tries the best he can. Guys like him, you always root for because he cares. And because he has not just grit, but skill. That’s something you welcome.”

Eyssimont projects to be on the Bruins’ fourth line but is eager to build a role with the team. After spending last season with the Tampa Bay Lightning and Seattle Kraken following a trade, Eyssimont was glad to get a deal done with the Bruins this offseason.

“This is where my heart was going into free agency signing day,” Eyssimont said after Tuesday’s win. “Luckily enough, we had a conversation that day, and their heart was there, too. That’s what I was going for the most, is opportunity. Going to a place where my wings aren’t clipped and I can kind of thrive, and I’m not just trying to tread water. This seemed like a place that has that, and I’m just looking to make the most of it.”

Between the Lightning and Kraken last season, Eyssimont recorded nine goals and seven assists for 16 points in 77 games.
