Adjusting your video storage time

Ring subscription plans1 and trials2 allow you to store videos in your Ring account. The default setting in the US is 30 days for 4K devices and 60 days for 1080p and 2K devices, but you can customize your settings for shorter or longer periods, up to 180 days. Some features, like 24/7 Recording may have shorter video storage times. Storage time for each device you have will need to be set individually.

  • 21 days
  • 30 days
    (default for 4K devices in the US)
  • 60 days
    (default for 2K and 1080p devices in the US)
  • 90 days
  • 120 days
  • 180 days

To keep important videos beyond 180 days, download them to your PC or mobile device.

How to change your video storage time

From the Ring app:

  1. Open the Ring app to the main dashboard.

  2. Tap on
    Control Center
    .
  3. Tap on
    Video and Snapshot Storage.
  4. Tap on
    Video and Snapshot Storage Time
    .
  5. Next to the device, select
    Edit
    .
    Choose a video storage option.

From a web browser:

  1. Log in to your account on Ring.com.
  2. Go to
    Account
    >
    Control Center
    .
  3. Select
    Video and Snapshot Storage
    , then select
    Video and Snapshot Storage Time.
  4. Next to the device, select
    Edit
    . Choose a video storage option.

More tips on video storage time

  • Adjusting video storage time requires an active subscription plan. This includes trial versions, although you will need to subscribe to a plan to keep videos in the cloud beyond your trial.
  • If you change the video storage time, the new setting will only apply to videos captured after the setting has been changed in the Ring app or on Ring.com.
  • If a Ring device is reset or replaced, storage time reverts back to the default storage time.
  • New devices with a Ring subscription or trial will default to the default storage time.
  • Devices that are set up with a new owner will default to the default storage time.
  • If a Ring subscription plan is cancelled and later reinstated, the device will keep the selected storage time.
  • Videos will be permanently lost if they are deleted, if your plan subscription lapses or if the video storage time expires. To keep your videos, download them.
  • You can share videos by accessing your Ring.com account from a browser or from the Ring app,
     

Video storage time does not impact the Snapshot Capture feature. Snapshot Captures are not videos and have their own storage time in the cloud of 7 to 14 days depending upon your plan.

Videos shared to other platforms

Videos shared to other platforms via a Share Link may still exist through that share link even if the video event has been deleted from the Ring app. Learn more about Shared Video Management.
