Ascending: Erin LeCount

SoundCloud’s Ascending program is a monthly series giving a platform to artists around the world who are breaking barriers and making their mark in the industry. April’s Ascending artist is alternative indie-pop darling Erin LeCount (born Erin Ruth LeCount), a 22-year-old savant who is ready for her moment in the sun. Hailing from Essex, England, the self-taught artist and producer is enjoying the success from her recent breakout hit “Silver Spoon,” from her highly-anticipated debut EP, ‘I Am Digital, I Am Divine.’

At the age of 9, Erin had already made a name for herself in her hometown by performing at open mics, showcasing a vocal range and emotional depth well beyond her years. Eventually, her local prominence led to an appearance on a British singing competition. What followed was a complicated relationship with music as a result of being in the public eye and falling under so much scrutiny as a child. Reminiscing on this period, she says, “It was such a weird time because suddenly I was surrounded by a world of comparison.”

However, during the pandemic, Erin rediscovered her voice and the power of storytelling. She taught herself how to produce on Logic Pro and steadily wrote songs exploring themes of identity, relationships and adolescence, wrapped up in a sonic contemplation on the meaning of life. Additionally, during this time, she watched her mother’s old ballet dance recital videos, an immense source of creative inspiration. She shares, “We had a DVD on ‘Swan Lake’ on repeat at home, and the beauty and aesthetic of that has certainly found its way into my visuals and sensibility.”

After spending over eight years being active on SoundCloud and refining her sound and image as an artist, Erin’s hard work is beginning to pay off. At the top of 2025, an unfinished demo of “Silver Spoon” took off on social media, leading her to share the demo via a SoundCloud link to her fans on Discord. This event led to hundreds of thousands of plays before the song’s official release. In tandem with this electric response online, Erin held an inmate headlining show for fans. For those who couldn’t attend or wanted to revisit the special performance, she recorded and uploaded the live audio to a private SoundCloud link, sharing the link on her private Discord as well.

Subsequently, for her latest track, “Marble Arch,” she uploaded a demo to SoundCloud and shared a private link of the song’s outro to fans, teasing what was to come and inviting her fans to share feedback in the comments section. One of her videos teasing the private demo garnered over 20k+ likes on TikTok, further exemplifying the excitement around her new music and commitment to rewarding and engaging the community she has built — and continues to nurture. She also recently took a moment to celebrate how far she has come on her journey, sharing in the excitement with her fans of what the experience was seeing her SoundCloud billboard in-person for the first time.

Now with the world watching, Erin dropped her debut EP ‘I Am Digital, I Am Divine’ on April 23. Entirely self-written and self-produced, Erin is laying claim to artistry on her own terms with a fiercely engaged and loyal fan community.

“Me and my voice do not do what a perfect pop singer is supposed to do. My songs are questioning everything, and I think my fans are too — I’m a perfectionist and I want to know every answer.”

Indeed, Erin’s introspection and uniqueness as an artist is evident through her latest efforts, making her one to watch.
