Champions League results: Virgil van Dijk rescues Liverpool; Bayern Munich, Inter, PSG win easy

Champions League Matchday 1 action on Wednesday featured some heavyweight fixtures.

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk rescued three points for the Reds with a 3-2 win over Atlético Madrid at Anfield. Andy Robertson and Mohamed Salah scored two minutes apart in the first half before Marcos Llorente's brace evened the score.

Two minutes into stoppage time, van Dijk connected with a Dominik Szoboszlai corner kick to head home the winner.

Bayern Munich had no trouble dispatching of Chelsea during a 3-1 victory at Allianz Arena. An own goal from Trevor Chalobah gave Bayern the lead in the 20th minute with Harry Kane doubling the lead seven minutes later via the penalty spot.

Cole Palmer would cut the lead to 2-1 in the 29th minute, but Kane would come through again in the 63rd minute to seal the win.

PSG were dominant in a 4-0 win over Atalanta with goals from Marquinhos, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Nuno Mendes. The reigning winners will face Barcelona in their next Champions League match on Oct. 1. I

Inter Milan blanked Ajax thanks to a Marcus Thuram brace.

In earlier action on Wednesday, Sondre Brunstad Fet saved a point for Bodø/Glimt as the Norwegian side drew 2-2 with Slavia Prague. Bodø/Glimt was down two goals and had a penalty denied by Slavia Prague goalkeeper Jindřich Staněk before scoring in the 78th and 90th minutes.

Pafos drew with Olympiacos 0-0 after playing the final 65 minutes down a man after midfielder Bruno picked up his second yellow card of the match.
