To help build and test new features or changes in Chrome, developers use Chrome flags. Chrome flags are temporary and may change, break, or be removed in the future without notice. Chrome flags aren’t settings, and you can’t use them to permanently change how Chrome works.
Turn Chrome flags on or off
Important:
- Most users shouldn’t need to modify Chrome flags.
- You can lose your browser data or compromise your security and privacy when you change Chrome flags.
- If you're an enterprise IT admin, you should not use Chrome flags in production.
- Instead of modifying Chrome flags, consider downloading Chrome Beta, where you can also test features before they're added to Chrome and give feedback. Learn how to test experimental features with Chrome Beta.
- Read the description of a Chrome flag before you enable or disable it. Only make changes to flags that you fully understand.
- Enable or disable one Chrome flag at a time. If you enable or disable multiple Chrome flags at once and experience any issues, it can be difficult to know which flag caused the problem.
Troubleshoot an issue with Chrome flags
When you troubleshoot an issue, you can turn a specific Chrome flag on or off to help identify the problem.
Important: If you experience any issues with Chrome after you enable or disable a Chrome flag, you can reset the Chrome flag back to its default settings. To reset to default settings:
- At the top, select Reset all.
- Relaunch Chrome.
To turn a Chrome flag on or off:
- On your device, open Chrome.
- Select New tab.
- In the address bar, enter
chrome://flags
- Under “Available,” choose the Chrome flag you want to use.
- To enable or disable a Chrome flag, next to the flag, select the drop-down menu
Enabled or Disabled.
- Relaunch Chrome.
Tips:
- If you still experience issues with Chrome after you reset all Chrome flags, you can reset Chrome settings to default.
- Make sure to update Chrome browser. Google regularly releases updates to Chrome that include bug fixes and security improvements. Learn how to update Google Chrome.
