Removed 1 hidden tool, cut client load time 12%. This tool is on ~77% of Shopify sites doing fk all   When doing site speed audits, the first thing I look for are tools / apps we can remove. This particular client had 95% of traffic hitting 1 PDP. Instead of changing the whole site - we removed 1 dev tool from that single page. Result: 12% speed boost + 2.5% CVR increase off the bat. CVR kept growing even while scaling to colder audiences.   The culprit? jQuery. It's a dev convenience tool. Users can't see it - but ships to all of them. Adds no real value.   Shopify sites are slow because of code bloat. Apps for carts, upsells, tracking scripts for Clarity, GA4, RichPanel, TripleWhale. There's too much going on.   The key is removing everything that doesn't drive revenue.   It's a tradeoff, because everything you add brings 'some' value. Page builders help validate landing pages fast, but cause big site speed issues. Your browser basically loads 2 pages instead of 1 (your page, then the page builder page).   Once something's validated and working - you rebuild in-house. We brainstorm, then we optimize. Getting rid of apps we once found useful is part of optimizing.   jQuery makes development quicker out-of-the-box. Which is fine for most sites, but Ecom is different (we built different son). We rely heavily on 3rd party tools, so we need to save every byte we can.   Instead of using Jquery, get your devs to use Vanilla JS. Vanilla JS is the browser's default code. Clean, no artificial flavors or sweetening.   Removing jQuery is normally my first audit suggestion. It doesn't affect users - purely a dev tool. Why ship it? Makes pages slower, and vanilla JS achieves the same result with slightly more setup. Cry me a river devs (I'm a dev too, I'm allowed to say it).   To check if you have jQuery: - Right click → "Inspect" - "CMD + F" and search "jquery" - If you get results, it's installed (should be a script tag) Removing this shaves time from load with zero backend impact.   Last few weeks to tighten things before BFCM!   Ps. Stop fixing 1 metric at a time. Some changes lift 3 or more metrics in one go. Here are 17 examples: 1/ Improve mobile version → CR ↑, AOV ↑, Bounce rate ↓ 2/ Speed up site load time → CR ↑, SEO traffic ↑ 3/ Launch loyalty program → Repeat rate ↑, LTV ↑ …and 14 more in the cheat sheet below The point is: If you only target single-metric wins, you’re leaving easy compound gains on the table. Save this, pick the easiest fix for your store, and track how many metrics it moves.

Preloading fonts seems like a smart #pagespeed tactic! 🚀 Many big sites are doing it 🤓 In general, once a font is done downloading, a browser needs to apply (=new paint) your carefully picked custom (or icon) font to the page. But when preloading a font, you (or your website/stack) basically tell a browser: Something important is coming up that you might need. So, instead of ending up doing two paint actions, the browser tries to be smart: It will hold the initial paint for a short while, until those preloads are received. #sitespeed result? Slight regression of #FCP and (depending on your image/element and other resources and priorities) #LCP Impact on #UX? Your page looks like it takes longer to load or your largest element takes longer to be displayed. The (negative) impact could even become worse when using: Variable fonts → bigger file, longer download Icon fonts → often bigger while unnecessary to render above the fold Extra CDN → extra handshake, more delay HTTP/1 → no multiplexing, fonts download one by one Do note that preloading doesn't have to be bad. Because NOT preloading fonts means: ❌ multiple paint actions in a short time span, which isn't ideal either from a technical/web #performance perspective 🤷 users might even notice when fonts are being swapped 💡in the end, you need to test + monitor results My rule of thumb: → only preload a max of 2 font files → only those that are used above the fold → and thus considered critical (which already excludes icon fonts)

📉 Why Old WordPress Category Designs Don’t Work Anymore The classic WordPress “grid-style” category pages fail on two fronts: Query Responsiveness – they don’t adapt to what the searcher is asking. Query Relevance – they don’t directly match the intent of the query. Even with strong Topical Authority, historical data, and brand search demand, these structures often lead to low CTR. Here’s why: Search behavior has changed. You might push impressions to 10M+, but still fail to penetrate effective ranking ranges. Exact Match Domains (EMDs) capture valuable terms. To compete, you either: Trigger a Featured Snippet, or Gain visibility in AI Overviews. Other “solutions” like subdomains or new EMDs may help, but ordinary WordPress tags, categories, or HTML sitemaps won’t close the gap. The Cost of Retrieval (Koray’s Framework) Every new page splits ranking signals and increases evaluation time. That’s why we follow: Page Serves Query – If a page exists, it must serve the query. Query Deserves Page – If a query is important, it deserves its own page. More categories, tags, or HTML sitemap URLs ≠ higher rankings. Internal linking must follow search engine ranking logistics, not outdated CMS templates from the early 2000s. This example is from a global app, blocked by EMDs on a high-value query. Your XML sitemap could be working harder for you…🤔 I see so many of the same mistakes over and over: ‼️Full of broken links and redirects ‼️Relative URLs instead of absolute URLs ⁉️Staging site URLs sneaking into the live sitemap (yes I’m being serious 😳) Which is a shame, because they have SO MUCH POTENTIAL to boost discovery and indexing when done right. Your XML sitemap doesn’t have to be just a list of links either. It can contain images, videos and even hreflang tags. “But why would I include hreflang tags on the sitemap if they are already on the site?” ⬇️ Well isn’t that convenient, I’ve written a blog post just for you 😜 Full of tips, tricks, and a checklist to help you make the most of that sweet, sweet crawl budget. Added a new much-requested feature to my Magento 2 LogViewer extension — Live Log 🖥️ Now you can see logs updating in real time right from the admin panel. If you just want to check old logs without live updates, you can turn the live mode off.
