Since 2008, the acceptance of free-flowing money and ever-increasing debt has been pretty high. But as the low interest rates and inflation era crashed into the pandemic, and more debt followed, sentiment has turned. The world’s largest economy is on the brink, with debt now as high as in the post-second world war period. Investors must be prepared to react to this, writes Arthur Sants, as he explains how the crisis evolved, what will make it worse and ultimately what investors can do to protect themselves. https://on.ft.com/482Nsl7

It was a pleasure to join Lord Lee of Trafford and Alex Newman on the Investors' Chronicle's Lee and the IC podcast to discuss M&G’s recent journey and growth ambitions. I always like talking to investors, so it was nice to be quizzed on a whole range of topics, especially by Lord Lee, who is an M&G shareholder himself. It was a good opportunity to highlight the progress we’re making in Asset Management – particularly in private markets – and our ambitions in Europe and Asia. We also discussed the evolution of our Life business and the work we are doing with PruFund. Our unique business model, where the Life business deploys large-scale capital and Asset Management identifies and manages long-term investment opportunities, combined with our clear strategic priorities, gives me confidence in our ability to keep delivering for clients, shareholders, and in our future outlook. It was a great moment to reflect on our growth journey so far, but we’re just getting started. I’ve added a link to the full episode in the comments.
