Surrey bus crash leaves pedestrian with life-threatening injuries

Early morning incident snarls Surrey traffic along King George Boulevard as police continue to investigate its cause.

The Surrey Police Service said a pedestrian was struck by a TransLink bus near the intersection of Highway 10 and King George Boulevard in Surrey on Saturday morning.

The incident occurred just after 5 a.m., and involved a bus that was out of service at the time of the collision. B.C. Emergency Health Services transported the pedestrian to hospital with life-threatening injuries. There was no update on their condition as of 5:30 p.m.

That portion of King George remained closed for several hours.

The driver of the bus remained on scene and is co-operating with the investigation, which has been taken over the SPS collision investigation unit. SPS said they have no early indications as to what caused the crash.

There have been several high-profile crashes involving TransLink buses this year, including a four-year-old who was killed at Horseshoe Bay earlier this summer. An out-of-service bus also crashed into a yard in Surrey in July, as well as another incident that left two people hospitalized after a bus careened into a bus stop in September.
