Why was NoScript created?

I created NoScript to make the web a safer place for Firefox users like me.
When I did it, I was really scared about a 0 day exploit affecting Firefox 1.0.13.
Rather than disabling JavaScript and other potentially exploitable technologies everywhere, which was the only work-around available, I decided to develop a more usable approach, giving myself and other users the ability to allow active content on trusted sites.
Since then, many other experimental defenses against emergent web threats have been pioneered by NoScript, e.g. the first client-side anti-XSS filter, the only effective client-side anti-Clickjacking protection (ClearClick) or the ABE anti-CSRF module.

What's next for NoScript

NoScript's many security features get constantly improved in usability, compatibility, accuracy and performance.

Among the major changes already planned:
1) A finer grained permissions system
2) External filters for active content, allowing for instance Flash applets to be stripped from dangerous content before execution once you allow them
3) Many enhancements the Application Boundaries Enforcer (ABE) module, turning it into a generic web firewalls
