UK Power Networks Services and London City Airport have plans to install renewable and sustainable energy technologies to ensure the long term resilience and operational excellence of the airport. London City Airport is undergoing a £500m development programme that will transform the airport and the customer experience, accommodating for a huge increase in demand to use London’s most central airport.

Producer of renewable fuels from wastes and residues, Neste, along with Air BP, continue to build on their successful collaboration in Sweden. The two companies are delivering sustainable aviation fuel to Stockholm Arlanda Airport, Malmö Airport, Umeå Airport, Åre Östersund Airport and Göteborg Landvetter Airport to support Swedavia deliver upon its greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets. 

Kuwait International Airport has opted for a tote-based baggage handling system for its new Terminal 2 airport project, which brings together contemporary design and technology. Once operational, it will bring Kuwait to the forefront of global aviation.

Air Travel is steadily growing year by year and with more people moving through airports security is becoming ever more essential. One of the larger airports in the Asia region was implementing a new surveillance system. The system would be comprised of many smaller units where a local server would connect to several security cameras.

Passengers travelling with Cathay Pacific can now participate in a trial of facial recognition self-boarding at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. This trial is part of the first phase of Seamless Flow, the program that intends to make paperless travel possible in the long term.

BEUMER Group has signed an agreement with Aruba Airport Authority for the design and installation of a $33m, high-speed baggage transportation and sortation system at Aruba’s Queen Beatrix International Airport. The installation, which also includes BEUMER’s residential programme for on-site operation and maintenance, is part of the airport’s Gateway 2030 expansion and modernisation programme.

NEC Corporation has received an order for air traffic control radars for Gimpo International Airport from South Korea's Seoul Regional Aviation Administration. The radars are to begin operation by October 2020.

Softil and global solution provider K-Won have jointly announced that Softil’s award-winning BEEHD software development kit (SDK) has been selected to drive a new generation of K-Won 3GPP standard compliant mission-critical push-to-talk and push-to-video communication terminals for use in the Incheon Airport Railway Link.

AirPod has announced the launch of its beta prototype, in preparation for the first commercial trial to be implemented in EU airports in autumn 2018. AirPod is a private capsule-like unit designed to be installed in public locations such as airports, hotels, train and bus stations or shopping centres. This comes as a solution for people seeking a private area to relax, sleep or work without having to leave the airport.

Gatwick’s new passenger app won Mobile Innovation of the Year at the National Technology awards, and also picked up Mobile App of the Year at the Real IT awards. The airport also won Cloud Project of the Year at the Real IT awards after becoming the world’s first major airport to introduce a cloud-based Flight Information System (FIDS).
