AstraZeneca saves time and space with process controls 16th September 2019

An Atlas Copco oxygen generator is helping Nat-Ur-Gas Solschen produce clean methane at their biogas plant in Germany. Desulphurisation of biogas using oxygen results in a sustainable energy source for the grid. An added benefit is the reduction in operating costs through improved energy efficiency, by up to 50%.

The R&D Tax Credit Scheme is a government initiative and while it is subject to European Union rules, ultimately the money is provided by HMRC, so the amount of funding available for creative pursuits should not be affected.

Manufacturing philosophies are subject to change and fashion, but Challenge Europe find that the one constant is the need for trust between suppliers and manufacturing customer. Indeed, it can be seen that this “hand-in-glove” relationship may often become so close that it is difficult to discern where the boundaries lie – who orders, who determines stock levels, who even carries or funds the stock, who establishes the final specification, who a particular operative actually works for.

Engineering could be one of the most poorly understood STEM careers, with new research from EngineeringUK showing that over three quarters (76%) of young people aged 11 – 19 do not know a lot about what those working in engineering do – and this could have far-reaching implications for all of us.

A drive to showcase how engineers help people’s health and wellbeing is underway as plans for Tomorrow’s Engineers Week 2019 (4-8th November 2019, #TEWeek19) have been revealed. At the heart of the Week will be a “Big Assembly” where around 50,000 young people are expected to take part in the same school assembly at the same time. The Big Assembly will feature inspirational engineers on a mission to improve people’s health and the nation’s wellbeing.

CIS Electronics Engineering has launched a new outsourcing initiative to help stabilise productivity demands and resource planning for R&D Directors. Called CIS Outsourced Workforce Solution (CISOWS), it allows Electronics Engineering companies to outsource some of their necessary R&D tasks such as Embedded Software Design, Development and Testing to CIS as an extension to their own R&D capability.
