Showery with some sunny intervals, risk of a heavy, slow moving shower and also a rumble or two of thunder.

Lake District Weather

Showers will continue overnight with a risk of thunder, showers may ease for a time in the morning but there is still a risk particularly around western fells, of a heavy slow moving shower becoming quite prolonged for a time. Some brighter spells are expected too particularly in the east. Showers continuing into the evening but becoming lighter and more infrequent.

Visibility

Visibility will fall poor during heavier showers particularly in the west in the morning, even during the afternoon visibility may become moderate during any showers.

Cloud Free Hill Top

In the morning it will be particularly cloudy with showers likely to be heavier and clump together for a time and bases are likely to lower below the summits for a time as the shower moves through with bases falling to around 700m, the chance of cloud free tops will be around 40%. This will improve in the afternoon to 70% as showers become less heavy and frequent and there will be more in the way of sunny intervals, cloud may temporarily fall over summits but this should be in between brighter spells.

A showery morning for the Lake District, most of the showers should be light and moved through fairly quickly, feeling quite cold with a northerly breeze. Perhaps less showers and more in the way of sunny spells in the afternoon.

Visibility

Visibility may be reduced moderate at times during the morning showers but should be mainly good in the afternoon.

Hill cloud

50% in the morning as a band of showers moves south over the area, cloud may become broken around 700m, rising to 80% in the afternoon when only whisps of cloud should affect the summits.

A cold start to the day with some frost, possibility of a few showers developing but also some bright or sunny spells. Cold northerly winds continuing.

Monday 21 October

A mainly dry day with long periods of sunshine, still feeling chilly but pleasant in the sunshine with mainly light winds.

Tuesday 22 October

Brighter weather continuing with plenty of morning sunshine, becoming cloudier later as fronts begin to start to move in from the west, strengthening westerly winds too.

The weather is renowned for changing rapidly and rainfall is a predominant feature. The wettest area in the Lake District is known as Sprinkling Tarn which receives approximately 5000mm of rainfall every year!
