    It is incompetent to *mitigate* risks that can be removed. For example, removes the risk of having nothing to release by the deadline. We are always ready to release. Here's another way to remove risk of failing to deliver:

    You don't die from the risks you know (being late on a project), you die from the risks you don't know (delivering the wrong product, or failing critical aspects like the Boeing 737Max)

    Estimation cannot reveal risks hiding inside the team. It fails at the most essential aspect of SW development: test the capability to deliver we favor *actual* delivery of SW as measure of progress and source of data. Data is actionable

    Almost agreed with this tweet: Confidence factors are dangerous when the downside is ruin (think with a survival rate of 5/6! But dead if you are "unlucky") Never plan to fail!

    Estimates just don't work. They never have. It is a lie that we tell for fake comfort. It's not our fault. The world has conditioned us to believe that estimates have some kind of value. When asked to estimate, I usually reply with a confidence factor.

    We should stop trying to mimic manufacturing industries. Manufacturing is typically a repetitive process. Software developers never deal with the same problem twice. is an exploration process, which makes estimates inaccurate by definition

    When we use models to manage a system (like project management + estimates), the system becomes as fragile as the model itself. I call this borrowed fragility.  Be careful which models you choose to use!

    Trying to validate a business idea before it's on the market is like trying to validate a lottery ticket before the draw. You can't ignore uncertainty in a randomness-laden venture. Validation is an invalid concept in these activities.

    : when a single observed data point invalidates all previous models. This is what happens in estimation. shows in painful detail what estimates do: create a false sense of security, which support invalid models. Then, something happens and BOOM!

    The current race to find a drug that helps in shows how the pharma industries use media to discredit some (Raoult's trial with Chloroquine in Marseille) and push someone else's agenda. Don't trust the media, do your own research if you care!

    Chloroquine: Does Big Pharma owns the media? + Studies are said to be "not rigorous" when it comes to Chloroquine in spite of robust statistical signal + Studies w/less rigor and significance are promoted when it comes to drugs by Gilead Note: Chl was OTC, costs 1 Euro a pack.

    At my son's hospital, they are wearing frickin' cloth masks while our country sends masks to Israel. We are supplying his department with masks free but I am pissed that hospitals all over the country do not have PPE while Kushner & co. export.

    Using story points within a team is 1 small thing. Mandating a fixed number of points per-sprint across all teams is quite something else.
