Is this really what modern web app development looks like to people these days? We truly are living through the dark ages. The boiler plating, the low-level distractions, the raw pool handling + sql, the configuration situps. Lordy.pic.twitter.com/1sEhWV6il1

Every line of code in that screenshot is explicit and quite understandable. If the alternative is a magical and overly-clever framework, I'll pass.

Also, you're comparing apples to oranges. Express is low-level and un-opinionated. It's not trying to solve the same problems as Rails.

Sorry but I give it to DHH on this one... having to add all those lines in Node.js just so start a server breaks my brain.

you don't need all that lines to just start a server in Node, though

this 👍. 200% readability is more worth than any academic abstraction bullshit taught at universities. "Everthing has to be OOP and abstract ..." => no!

If this is considered to be "dark ages", man I could tell you 'bout stuff right away from nightmares! In addition: IMHO abstraction comes with complexity and complexity costs resources. Keep it simple - you ain't gonna need it.

Also if you replaced the SQL queries with TypeORM it would look as clean as any high-level framework.
