Recently I learned about the Japanese concept of ikigai. We all have things that • we're good at • we can be paid for • we love doing • makes the world better We all aim to be in a spot where we hit all 4. The diagram below helps explain how you feel when you hit 2 or 3 of 4

The US has lost 26.5M jobs in the past month or so due to . This is more jobs than have been created since housing crisis. In response, the stock market has risen over the same time and is now at same levels as last year. Inequality in the US has just gone astronomic📈

300 million people used Zoom on Tuesday. In December, their daily active users averaged 10 million. Scaling a real-time service 30x almost overnight is unbelievable. Also another example of user experiences being divorced from tech media negativity.

A tip for product managers while working remotely is the larger the audience the more asynchronous the communication. Video conferencing works for low single digit discussions. Beyond that chat may be more effective. 10+? Email or blog posts better to give time & context

My kid: Why would the government announce it would relax social distancing during an exponentially spreading pandemic on the day we've had the most deaths? How does that make any sense? Me: Shouldn't you be playing Fortnite?

The life & death question is whether the risk of future abuses by democratically elected governments is worth watering down one of the few effective tools we have in controlling the pandemic? Google & Apple have said Yes, but it isn’t an obvious call given 2K daily deaths in USA

Although it’s easy to take sides the reality is there are no easy answers. Contact tracing is obviously more effective if health officials know who tested positive for and everyone they interacted with. However huge risk governments will abuse this new spying power.

The real question then is what is your government or employer’s 12-18 month plan since it’s unrealistic to expect people to shelter in place for a year. I expect we’ll see peaks & troughs in cases & deaths as lockdowns are lifted and reinstated over the course of the year.

Problem with a lot of the models on lives saved by flattening the curve is that we are 12-18 months away from a vaccine but they assume a few months of lockdown. At the end of the lockdowns, without a vaccine we’ve only shifted timeline of mass deaths.

I never thought I'd be so exhausted just sitting in one place taking video calls all day but here we are.

A few of my friends in Georgia explained to me why the state was reopening and this Facebook post captures it eloquently. Basically the state doesn't have enough unemployment budget for indefinite shelter-in-place so if it reopens & you choose not to work, you can't file for it.

I remember reading about a developer quitting Charter Communications because they forced everyone to work from the office. Since then, 230 employees have tested positive for . Now they're being investigated. So many companies are going to get sued

France & Germany’s ROBust & privacy-presERving proximity Tracing protocol (ROBERT) creates a unique ID per user which is centrally stored. This makes it easy for health officials to track contacts but it’s 1984 on steroids. This is basically privacy vs 😷

22M people filed for unemployment in 1 month. Oil prices have crashed to below $1/barrel. Yet the stock market is still at 2018 prices. We'll face reality now it's earnings season. 4/21 - - 4/23 - Next week - - - -

I'm seeing this sentiment across a lot of Nigerian and other international Twitter circles. Between the US and the UK, we have 50% of cases in the world due to poor government response. It's amazing considering how both countries were regarded when we were growing up.

We aren’t going to stop grocery shopping online or signing contracts on our phones after self-quarantine. Also companies aren’t going to unwind those investments. Same isn’t true for schooling via video chat. Opportunity is in finding more sticky post-quarantine habits.

The current crisis has shifted habits and there’s a lot of opportunity for entrepreneurs who can figure out what shifts are permanent versus temporary. For example, growth of Zoom & Houseparty seems temporary whereas Shopify, Stripe & DocuSign are inevitable trends speeding up.

I knew Trump having his signature on stimulus checks would reflect favorably on him but even in my wildest dreams I didn’t expect this take.
