This is frustrating. Does this mean you can't increase ventilation in one building if another can't handle it? You can't install MERV 13 filters if another building can't handle it? Inequalities exist, but every option should be on the table to reduce risk 2/3

Allow donations of portable air cleaners (they reduce risk in classrooms, see
@CorsIAQ threads, more evidence coming), allow teachers to bring them in. We should be applying every option we can in as many places that we can to reduce COVID19 risk as much as we can. 3/3Show this thread

@Poppendieck@ShellyMBoulder I believe we can find a way to get these in classrooms in many school districts but some teachers are afraid to use because don’t know where to position them in a classroom. Need fact-based advice. Thoughts? Diagrams? Much needed!#IAQ#COVID19 -
It depends on the air flow pattern in the room and it varies. So The best general guidance that can be given is put in middle of room.

What models or types are recommended?

True HEPA filters. Look for the CADR number. Its the number of cubic feet per minute of filtered air delivered to a space. If dividing CADR*60 by your room volume is >=5, then it’s appropriately sized.

If the schools have HVAC systems, what are your thoughts on bipolar ionization to treat the air within the classrooms?
-
I prefer HEPA only units.

I agree but we need to be careful when we talk about air cleaners/purifiers and specify which ones are good to use.

If I hadn't tweeted in anger, I would have specified HEPA-only portable air cleaners. :)
