NASA’s Tweets

Note: is now in an expected period with no signal. As with all space communications, we need line of sight to transmit and receive signals, and right now the Moon is between Orion and Deep Space Network tracking stations. Stay tuned for more live video.

Even though is uncrewed, that doesn't mean the spacecraft is empty. Commander Moonikin Campos is taking over the Twitter account from lunar orbit. Soon, the spacecraft will hit its maximum distance from Earth — over 270,000 miles! go.nasa.gov/3zGQjg6

Hey there! Remember me? It’s Commander Moonikin Campos, and I’m taking over this account again… but this time, from the Moon! As I write these Tweets, my crew and I are flying aboard the @NASA_Orion spacecraft in a distant retrograde orbit! nasa.gov/moonikin-comic

Some of the brightest objects in space are blazars—supermassive black holes feeding off material, which can create two powerful jets of high-speed particles. A recent discovery using IXPE data solves a mystery 40 years in the works: go.nasa.gov/3V8StPU #BlackHoleFriday
This illustration shows NASA’s IXPE spacecraft, at right, observing blazar Markarian 501, at left. A blazar, notated on the left of the image, is a black hole surrounded by a disk of gas and dust with a bright jet of high-energy particles pointed toward Earth. The inset illustration shows high-energy particles in the jet (blue). When the particles hit the shock wave, depicted as a white bar, the particles become energized and emit X-rays as they accelerate. Moving away from the shock, they emit lower-energy light: first visible, then infrared, and radio waves and are tagged in the image. Farther from the shock, the magnetic field lines are more chaotic, causing more turbulence in the particle stream. IXPE looks like a satellite with four parallel solar panels. It directly observes a high-energy jet emitted by the blazar, so it looks iike a laser. Credits: NASA/Pablo Garcia

Are there rivers and lakes on other worlds? You bet. Just like Earth, Saturn’s moon Titan is home to these fairly unique features—except these lakes and rivers aren’t filled with water. Planetary scientist Dr. Sarah Hörst spills the science tea. go.nasa.gov/2QzAAIt

We want to hear from you! Join our series of virtual and in-person meetings seeking to obtain public comments on the contents of the draft environmental impact statement for the Mars Sample Return Campaign being planned by and . Here’s how: go.nasa.gov/3gniufj
An illustration shows the concept of NASA’s Mars Sample Return mission to ferry to Earth samples collected from the Martian surface by NASA's Mars Perseverance rover. In the far distance in the sky is Earth. Depicted are a Mars helicopter, a Mars rover, a lander, and an orbiter. A small, sample-carrying rocket is launching from the lander. Credits: NASA

We're working with to plan one of the most ambitious feats ever attempted in space—bringing a Mars sample to Earth. The Mars Sample Return campaign could help answer a question rovers alone cannot: Was there life on Mars? Here's how we plan to do it: mars.nasa.gov/msr/

Earthset. 🌎 captured this shot of Earth “setting” while the spacecraft passed close to the Moon. Nearly 270,000 miles (430,000 km) away, #Artemis I will soon surpass Apollo 13’s record-setting distance from Earth in a spacecraft designed to carry astronauts.
The Orion spacecraft captures an image of Earth setting behind the Moon. The metallic grey and white structure of the spacecraft dominates the left side of the image. To the far right, the dusty grey surface of the Moon looms large beside the small blue and white Earth in the far distance. The background of the image is the dark blackness of space. No stars are visible as the high contrast of the Moon and Orion spacecraft wash out the distant stars. Credit: NASA
