Amazon spent the past 30 years building Amazon.com. It serves many customers with a vast selection of items at everyday low prices with convenient delivery—and you may be one of them.
But business customers have different needs.
Amazon has long known that organizations were shopping for office supplies and other items in bulk on its store. To better serve them, the company launched Amazon Business in 2015.
“When organizations source with Amazon Business, they’re not just shopping—they’re streamlining their supply chain while saving time and money through powerful tools designed specifically for business needs,” said Shelley Salomon, global vice president for Amazon Business. “From local entrepreneurs to multinational companies, we deliver what matters most: access to hundreds of millions of items around the world, significant cost savings year-round, and even more convenient delivery helping organizations save time and money, reduce complexity, and ultimately grow.”
Now in its 10th year of transforming business buying, Amazon Business has since become one of the fastest-growing ventures in Amazon’s history. It drives over $35 billion in annualized sales.
“I’ve been excited about Amazon Business since the day it launched,” said Doug Herrington, CEO of Amazon Worldwide Stores. “The Amazon Business team is committed to the long-term success of their business and its customers. Day in and day out, we dig into the specific purchasing needs of businesses and organizations and come up with innovative ways to deliver great prices, extensive selection, and consistent, reliable convenience. Businesses and organizations need different tools and features for their purchasing, and Amazon Business has built those tools. But we know that’s not enough, and we’ll keep iterating to make the customer experience even better.
Despite the progress and growth of Amazon Business, the energy inside the team makes it feel like a startup with a lot of room to expand further. Recently, Amazon Business announced that it reached a new milestone, actively serving over 8 million organizations globally, excluding emerging markets—from small businesses to the world’s largest companies. Amazon Business tailors the best of Amazon—everyday low prices, vast selection, and a convenient shopping and delivery experience—along with offering a diverse supplier network, reliable and adaptable global logistics network, and intuitive AI-powered data analytics tools to meet the needs of all organizations, including 97 of the Fortune 100 companies and hundreds of thousands of small business customers worldwide.
This year, Amazon Business also delivers value, selection, and convenience to organizations in the following ways:
- In the first half of the year, quantity discounts from Amazon Business helped U.S. organizations save over $150 million.
- Business customers now have access to 25% more items globally compared to this time last year, with significant growth in specialized categories like industrial and scientific supplies, professional-grade equipment, health care and laboratory materials, education resources and technology, and facility maintenance supplies.
- Small-business customers have also benefited from quantity discounts, with global small-business customers saving more than $70 million, and U.S. small-business customers saving over $25 million through purchasing in bulk last year.
- Demonstrating its commitment to reducing packaging waste and delivery trips, Amazon Business has expanded direct delivery via pallets so that more than 85% of U.S. business customers now have access to this consolidated delivery option. Pallet delivery not only reduces environmental impact but also helps organizations streamline their operations for receiving orders.
- Last year, Business Prime members saved more than $750 million globally in shipping fees, and this year, Business Prime members are also enjoying Amazon’s fastest delivery speeds yet. Nearly 50% of global orders and over 70% of U.S. Business Prime orders arrived same day or next day in the last year.”
