Best-selling ‘Wild Card’ author Elsie Silver reveals her favorite recent reads

The Amazon Editors are huge fans of Elsie Silver—and we’re not alone, judging by her millions of likes on TikTok. The best-selling romance author has just released Wild Card, which we named a best romance book of September. I swooned for this grumpy sunshine duo! Fire pilot Bash ignites a heat in Gwen that no amount of hot yoga can quench. Add one meddling old man, a complicated past, and small-town charm for a romance that'll melt your heart. It’s the fourth in the Rose Hill series; the last one, Wild Side, was a Best Romance Book (So Far) this year, and the second, Wild Eyes, was a Best Romance Book of 2024.
It’s safe to say that Silver knows a thing (or 10) about how to tell a good story. So we asked her: what books inspire her? What has she read recently, and loved? Her four recent favorites are below.
Nocticadia gripped me from the first page all the way through to the last. I was riveted. It's the perfect blend of gothic, spooky, spicy, and full-on swoony. I loved both of the main characters and the storyline felt fresh and totally intriguing. This book kept me from basic chores and from sleep—and any time a book can keep me up into the wee hours of the night I know it's a new favorite! —Elsie Silver
This book packs in some of my all-time favorite tropes: enemies-to-lovers and forced proximity. I love a well-developed slow burn romance and Not Safe for Work delivers exactly that. Nisha has written a beautiful, sexy, tension-filled rom-com while masterfully weaving in real-life struggle. The banter was top notch and the tropical locale made it the perfect escape! —Elsie Silver
I absolutely blew through all three books in The Kindred's Curse Saga and have zero regrets. Penn Cole's world building in this fantasy romance is top notch, and the characters are beautifully complex. The romance is downright epic, and the political nuance is masterful and very thoughtful. These are books I feel like I could read again just to pick up all the breadcrumbs that have been so tactfully left behind. I can't wait for the next book in the series! —Elsie Silver
This is one of those books that I find myself reflecting on often. A story that has certainly stuck with me. R.F. Kuang's writing is just so engaging. The touch of fantasy mixed with military strategy and a whole lot of heartbreak makes this book so unique. I felt ALL the feelings with the books in this series and they certainly put you through the ringer, but I think that's what's so impactful about them. A series that I won't soon forget! —Elsie Silver
