      A midrange smartphone with repairable function and good cost

      More extensive reviews are available on line. This is a perfectly good midrange smartphone with a satisfactory camera and moderate battery life and processor speed. Three years ago it would have been cutting edge. It works great. The set of the buttons is critised as being poor to the feeling and the power on and fingerprint is set a tad lower than most phones and may be hard for some. I find the accuracy of my fingerprint is much better with this smartphone, though that could be updated software rather than the hardware.

      The body is plastic, but has metal below that and feels firm and less metal means this phone is quite light in its feeling in the hand.

      The people who buy this mostly want to be able to repair it themselves and that appears both facile and even facilitated as tools are included to that end. Replacement of any of 12 parts is fairly easy.

      It appears to be of a good value and easy to use with either Android or e/OS.

      So far *(though very little time,) so great. I will update over time.

      I had the unfortunate experience of my 10+ year old Samsung Note 9 dying this week. The same apx time the Fairphone was released to the US. I feel compelled to write being early in on the US side and seeing limited reviews here yet.

      There's some intentional background there in that I hadn't seen an Android software update for around four or five years. UI or Android native software is not what I can speak to. I'd like it different but after seeing a new tablet with the same Android version I do not attribute it to Fairphone.

      I came from the era where cell phones were built with replaceable batteries. Hell. I think I had one of those Nokia mythic brick phones. The ability to buy aftermarket upgrades was normal. Until it was taken away.

      A Dutch company being ahead of the curve to address incoming EU requirements of self-repair options should not create its own advertisement. Yet, in the US, it certainly does.

      Sim card swap was absolutely a breeze. Never had to contact my carrier. Setup was perfect, short of my 2FA limitations getting all main accounts on board.

      The phone has a good weight. Light. Sits right.

      The part replacement cost is 1000% acceptable and respectable.

      Some other companies taking this approach of personal repair would give them a larger market share. I don't hope to find out that they do. I'm a fan so far.

      I like the concept of the product - but the software needs work. The camera stack is unstable and randomly crashes especially when using apps that you open / close a lot. So they need to improve their software by a lot.

      I really wanted to like this phone. I already own the FP6 and bought this model hoping the long-standing software bugs were resolved.

      Unfortunately, they are not. The IPv6 Wi-Fi bug remains, and spending $700 on a device without reliable wifi is nonsense. The auto-brightness also will never learn in complete darkness. If I raise the slider manually, the display drops straight back to zero the moment I close the quick settings panel. The only workaround is turning auto-brightness off entirely, which I have to every night, and it pretty annoying.

      I checked the forums and Reddit to see if the team is working on a fix, only to discover these bugs have dragged on for months. Neither was addressed in the latest firmware update, which is really disappointing.

      Fairphone needs to fix both issues right away. Once those bugs are fixed, I will gladly give it another try. Until then, plenty of $700 options handle basic Wi-Fi and screen brightness without any trouble.

      Microphone cuts out during the calls. We'll known issue in the forums. No solution @ this time! I'm hoping for an update! Very nice 12 piece self service phone with 7 years update commitment. Everything user serviceable. British products are usually reliable and huge upside getting away from Apple & Samsung. When was the last time you could change your battery?
