About this listen

Internationally best-selling author Chuck Palahniuk's uproarious and irreverent debut novel Fight Club was transformed into an Academy Award-nominated film starring Edward Norton and Brad Pitt.

When a listless office employee (the narrator) meets Tyler Durden, his life begins to take on a strange new dimension. Together they form Fight Club - a secretive underground group sponsoring bloody bare-knuckle boxing matches staged in seedy alleys, vacant warehouses, and dive-bar basements. Fight Club lets ordinary men vent their suppressed rage, and it quickly develops a fanatical following. Before long it takes on all the trappings of a quasi-religious cult, replete with a devastating ideological mission to accomplish.

A masterpiece of raw violence and black humor, this exciting novel challenges listeners to see the world through a new - and quite possibly deranged - set of eyes. Acclaimed narrator Jim Colby brings out the dark satire in this tale of modern alienation.

I loved this experience! I highly recommend, especially if you've never seen the movie like me.

Great Listen

I watched the movie many years ago and bought this book on a whim. The performance was good and the story moves quickly and is mostly "enjoyable". But wow! What a dark and troubling book. You have to wonder how narcissistic the author is to come up with this subject matter. I remember the movie being fairly dark and I don't know of it is the passage of time, or my intimate dealings with severely narcissistic people in the intervening years, or just that the book delves deeper into the thoughts of the main character, but this book bothered me. I'm glad it is not any longer than it is because I'm not sure I could have stomached any more time in the mind of the main character.

A Deeply Troubling Book

I enjoyed Fight Club, the story had good pacing, however I felt like I would have been easily confused had I not seen the movie first.

To be fair I have seen the movie at least three times and there are enough new things in here to keep you intrigued if you already know the story.

Still, if you're looking for a dark (yet sometimes comedic) story with insane twists and turns, this is the book for you.

While I felt the ending was good, I still like the movie version better. Overall it's still worth a listen.

A great story that the movie does better

I listened to this book a long time ago and remember a different ending.

Love it! The movie is great too.

I unfortunately watched the movie first (gasp!) but loved the book so much better. The movie is so closely done to the book, it will be one of my favourites that I will read as much as I’ve seen the movie (which is uncountable). The narrator did different voices perfectly, I felt each character as they spoke. Well done!

Awesome story!
