About this listen

A deeply honest investigation of what it means to be a woman and a commodity from Emily Ratajkowski, the archetypal, multi-hyphenate celebrity of our time.

Emily Ratajkowski is an acclaimed model and actress, an engaged political progressive, a formidable entrepreneur, a global social media phenomenon, and now, a writer. Rocketing to world fame at age 21, Ratajkowski sparked both praise and furor with the provocative display of her body as an unapologetic statement of feminist empowerment. The subsequent evolution in her thinking about our culture’s commodification of women is the subject of this book.

My Body is a profoundly personal exploration of feminism, sexuality, and power, of men's treatment of women and women's rationalizations for accepting that treatment. These essays chronicle moments from Ratajkowski’s life while investigating the culture’s fetishization of girls and female beauty, its obsession with and contempt for women’s sexuality, the perverse dynamics of the fashion and film industries, and the grey area between consent and abuse.

Nuanced, unflinching, and incisive, My Body marks the debut of a fierce writer brimming with courage and intelligence.

Beautifully written and read. Naturally poetic and emotional. Very candid. I hope she continues to write

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to Emily read her story. It felt like a conversation with an old friend - incredibly relatable & filled with honest truths about what it means to be a woman in our time. We are the same age & I felt this would resonate deeply with any woman from this generation.

Loved it!

Pleasantly surprised by this. Ratajkowski has been in the public eye since I was a middle schooler but I believe this is the only time we’ve really seen her.
Her thoughts surrounding feminism, the objectification of women and desirability are so articulate yet relatable to women despite not having the lived experiences of a famous model. In the chapter, “Men Like You,” Ratajkowski gets choked up while narrating her words and so do I while listening - that vulnerability from an author shows how personal these essays are to her and I truly valued + felt connected to her perspectives.

Vulnerability

I appreciate Emily’s vulnerability. She shares her stories that many women and people go through. She made me feel less alone.

Inspiring for women

Emrata has gifted us with a beautiful narrative of her life and both her unique perspective and that of all women. Proving (without needing to) that she is indeed a writer.

Beautifully written and vulnerable
