About this listen

Robert McKee's screenwriting workshops have earned him an international reputation for inspiring novices, refining works in progress, and putting major screenwriting careers back on track. Quincy Jones, Diane Keaton, Gloria Steinem, Julia Roberts, John Cleese, and David Bowie are just a few of his celebrity alumni. Writers, producers, development executives, and agents all flock to his lecture series, praising it as a mesmerizing and intense learning experience.

In Story, McKee expands on the concepts he teaches in his $450 seminars (considered a must by industry insiders), providing listeners with the most comprehensive, integrated explanation of the craft of writing for the screen. No one better understands how all the elements of a screenplay fit together, and no one is better qualified to explain the "magic" of story construction and the relationship between structure and character than Robert McKee.

I loved it so much I listened to it twice. The last 15 minutes is quite valuable knowledge.

A great book for new screenwriters

Aside from the odd Star Wars lines, McKeeis very informative. I will be coming back to this anytime I need to get unstuck.

Very informative

I don’t know every movie mentioned in this audio book, but I know The Empire Strikes Back very well, and the author misquotes it often and constantly misunderstands the events in the film. Recognizing that makes it impossible to believe he knows what he’s saying about the other movies he referenced.

If you want a good book about script writing look for Blake Snyder’s Save The Cat.

Not a good story

I think some of the content is useful but the entire book refers to each theoretical character as “he” and also refers to every writer as “he”. It just feels like something written in the 50’s where only men can be heroes and only men can be authors.

Kind of just ruined it for me.
