This was a very real look at the problems of "traditional Western beauty" in our society, for men and women. There are so many knots that make up this mess of unhappiness with ourselves and the image we put out into the world, that I was impressed at how thorough the author was as she masterfully unweaved each thread. I would be very interested to listen to further studies of the Beauty Myth in other cultures as instituionalized unhappiness and unfullfillment for profit is a global market.

After hearing this book quoted many times in podcasts I had to listen to it. It is definitely a must-listen for anyone who calls themselves a feminist or questions feminism

The book is old, a lot of things have changed since 1990 but sadly still has a lot of facts and truth in it. I wish there was am updated version for the beauty myth. It is excellant narrated! I recommend this book for every young woman.
